Job Type:

Initial Period (6-12 months
) – Equity only

Full-time, Salary + Equity
– 4-6 months after incepting operations

About the Company:

Acrewise Farms is an early-stage, for-profit, social impact startup agricultural company in Kenya. We're dedicated to building a large, profitable agribusiness operation while providing fair-paying, equitable jobs for single mothers and homeless youth of working age in Kenya. For more details please visit or inquire within.

About the Role:

First, note the job title is Director of Business Development rather than Business Development Director. This is intended to denote our viewpoint that this is a more senior role than that of a traditional Business Development Director and has additional senior management level responsibilities. Please note that this is a very hands-on role – this role is best suited to a doer rather than someone who merely advises on what execution should look like.

Initially (prior to funding) this is a role which requires a minimal amount of hours as the founders have already completed the vast majority of administrative tasks over the past year. During this period all employees, including the co-founders, are compensated on an equity only bbasis.

Once our Seed Series round is finalized and our land is developed and offices are constructed, this role will become a full-time salaried role completely with a full benefits package and additional bonus potential based on individual and company performance. The role will work hand in hand with our CEO, COO, and CFO as well as with other members of the management team and members of our Advisory Board to a lesser extent.

Key Responsibilities:

- Identifying new business opportunities.

- Sales & outreach to prospective new clients.

- Conducting market research and market intelligence activities including segmentation, customer journey mapping, brand awareness, product development, pricing, etc.

- Preparing proposals and presentations in support of business development activities and associated reports.

- Development and implementation of a comprehensive business development growth plan. Plan must be approved by the Company CEO and COO.

- Responsible for meeting multiple quarterly and annual financial targets. Targets will include aggregate sales numbers, average revenue per acre per crop, % of sales through direct relationships vs. % of sales through aggregators, client satisfaction metrics, etc.

- Responsible for management, hiring, training, and success of sales, marketing, and business development team members.

- Responsible for contract negotiations.

- Representing the Company at networking events, conferences, meetings, and other industry related events.

- Working cross-collaboratively with other members of the senior management team to identify, plan, and execute company-wide initiatives and strategies.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, communications, or other relevant field. Master's degree or PhD preferred. Note 'relevant field' is intentionally broad as we believe the best candidates may come from a diverse set of academic backgrounds.

- Able to provide a Certificate of Good Conduct.

- 100% personal and professional integrity. Any departure from absolute integrity will be grounds for immediate termination and may result in additional legal actions.

- At least 8-10 years in business development, sales, and/or marketing with progressively more senior roles held.

- At least 5 years of experience in the agricultural sector.

- Large existing professional network in the agricultural sector and ability to grow this network quickly and efficiently.

- Experience driving and managing at least $5mm in annual sales.

- Experience managing a team of at least 3 direct reports.

- High level proficiency in various software applications including PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Teams, and sales applications such as SalesForce.

- Social justice and servant leader mindset.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Startup experience.

- Export experience.

- Value-addition agricultural activities experience.
