Our client is seeking a highly accomplished Senior Chemical Engineer with a specialization in plant design for a fully remote, critical role. This position requires a visionary engineer capable of conceptualizing, designing, and overseeing the development of new chemical plants and the expansion of existing facilities. You will be at the forefront of leveraging cutting-edge technology and sustainable practices to create efficient, safe, and compliant chemical processing environments. Your expertise will guide the entire lifecycle of plant design, from initial feasibility studies to detailed engineering and project execution support.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the conceptual design and detailed engineering of chemical process plants, ensuring adherence to project specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), equipment specifications, and material and energy balances.
  • Conduct site selection studies, feasibility analyses, and techno-economic evaluations for new plant projects.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams (mechanical, electrical, civil, instrumentation) to ensure integrated plant design.
  • Specify and select major process equipment, such as reactors, distillation columns, heat exchangers, pumps, and compressors.
  • Oversee HAZOP studies and ensure the implementation of process safety measures and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Manage external engineering consultants and technology licensors during the design phase.
  • Review vendor proposals and ensure compliance with design specifications.
  • Provide technical support during plant construction, commissioning, and start-up phases.
  • Develop operational and maintenance strategies for new facilities.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry best practices in chemical plant design and sustainability.
  • Ensure designs comply with environmental regulations and promote sustainable operational practices.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers in the design team.

Qualifications and Skills:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in chemical plant design and engineering.
  • Proven track record in designing complex chemical processes and facilities.
  • Expertise in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, ChemCAD).
  • In-depth knowledge of process safety management (PSM) principles and standards.
  • Strong understanding of relevant industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API).
  • Excellent project management and coordination skills.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities.
  • Outstanding communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, capable of managing remote teams effectively.
  • Experience with CAD and 3D modeling software is beneficial.
  • Ability to interpret and develop P&IDs and equipment specifications.
  • Experience in sustainability and green engineering principles is a plus.
