Background:

Agri Experience Limited is a Nairobi-based consulting firm which focuses on seed systems development in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) and undertakes different client assignments. One of the assignments involves the development of a National Crop Variety Catalogue System, which involves a significant amount of data entry, clean up and verification.  In addition, new assignments increasingly require some research, data entry and reporting.

The Data Entry and Research Clerk was a temporary position for an initial period of 4 months, which has been extended by six more months. This position reports to the Consultant and ICT Specialist.

Summary of Role:

The incumbent will support research, data entry, and clean-up and provide input into subsequent report writing, which may include adding tables, graphs, and charts. The incumbent will also be expected to participate in team meetings, brainstorming sessions, and feedback sessions.

Responsibilities:

· Carry out seed systems-related research as requested.

· Update routine data for partners, such as annual seed certification volumes.

· Prepare, upon request, different components which will be used to prepare reports.

· Input data from PDF, MS Word, and other forms into Microsoft Excel database with precision and efficiency, ensuring that all information is accurately recorded.

· Follow data entry procedures and techniques to ensure accuracy, completeness and quality of data.

· Verify and cross-check data for errors, and correct any discrepancies promptly.

· Update and maintain database with new and existing information.

· Collaborate with other team members to ensure seamless data management.

· Adhere to company guidelines and procedures for data entry and information security.

· Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet project deadlines and targets.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

· Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Agriculture, Statistics or equivalent qualification.

**Job Summary

The Research & Data Specialist will play a key role in strengthening Chancen's ISA underwriting and portfolio analytics by ensuring high-quality data input, interpreting macroeconomic and market trends, and integrating external datasets. This role sits within the Financial Planning and Analysis team and supports pricing, risk analysis, and portfolio optimization efforts. The Specialist will work closely with the Tech, Finance, and Impact teams to improve how Chancen collects, organizes, and analyzes data across countries and portfolios.
Key Responsibilities**
1. Data Input & Quality Assurance

• Maintain standardized input templates (ISA, PEI, employment); enforce schema, validation, and audit trails.
• Run QA checks (completeness, outliers, duplicates, cohort consistency); reconcile discrepancies with data owners.

• Publish data quality reports and escalate recurring issues with corrective actions.

• Underwriting Support

• Ingest and harmonize PEI datasets (enrolment, completion, placement, salary distributions/percentiles).

• Compute placement rate, time-to-placement, salary progression curves by program/PEI/country.

• Produce quarterly PEI scorecards to inform pricing guardrails (share %, thresholds, caps) and affordability checks.

• Market & Macro Trend Analysis

• Track inflation, minimum wage, unemployment, sector demand, and youth income trends; maintain a macro indicator pack per country.

• Write concise insight briefs (one-pager) highlighting risk/opportunity and recommended parameter changes.

• Country Partnerships & Data Procurement

• Build strong working relationships with Country Managers, PEIs, ministries/labour bureaus, and relevant agencies across different countries.

• Map, source, and procure priority datasets (employment, wage, placement, census/sector data, PEI admin data); maintain a live source register with refresh cadences and owners.
• Lead data-sharing requests and negotiate MoUs/DSAs with support from Legal/Compliance; ensure licensing terms, usage rights, and privacy are respected.
• Set SLAs for delivery, quality, and format with country partners; monitor adherence and escalate risks early.

• Track procurement budget and cost per dataset; propose cost-effective alternatives when needed.

• Data Systems & Integration

• Align datasets to the data warehouse schema; define data contracts and SLAs with Tech.

• Co-build/maintain dashboards for portfolio health, outcomes, and underwriting inputs (BI tools).
• Version control for data artifacts, queries, and calculations; maintain data dictionary.

Under the supervision of the head of SPACIAL the Spatial Data Scientist – Remote Sensing will lead and implement advanced remote sensing analysis tasks, including processing of optical and SAR data, timeseries analysis, and predictive modeling with primary focus on the modeling of temporal dynamics across complex landscapes. The position will support a range of projects and programmes across CIFOR-ICRAF, including Regreening Africa, Knowledge for Great Green Wall Action (K4GGWA). Towards Ending Drought Emergencies (Twende), and upcoming assessments of soil and land health with funding from NORAD.

Duties and responsibilities

Spatial data science

• Optical data processing and analysis, including from sensors such as Sentinel 2 and Landsat 8/9.
• SAR data processing and analysis, primarily Sentinel 1.
• Timeseries analysis, including detection of trends and anomalies in temporal data (vegetation, precipitation, land surface temperatures, etc)
• Predictive modeling of time series data, including forecasting where relevant.
• Applications of machine learning for predictive modeling and mapping of indicators relevant to assessment of ecosystem health using a combination of field data and remote sensing.
• Spatial data analysis tasks, including spatial queries, vector data extraction, processing, and cleaning.

Capacity development

• Lead internal capacity development seminars within CIFOR-ICRAF.
