Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Transportation Engineer to lead and contribute to significant infrastructure projects. This is a fully remote position, allowing you to contribute your expertise from anywhere.
As a Senior Transportation Engineer, you will be responsible for the planning, design, and implementation of transportation systems and infrastructure. You will conduct traffic studies, analyze traffic flow, and develop solutions for improving transportation efficiency, safety, and sustainability. This role involves the preparation of technical reports, traffic models, and design drawings, ensuring compliance with all relevant engineering standards and regulations. You will collaborate with urban planners, civil engineers, government agencies, and construction teams to deliver comprehensive transportation solutions. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, expertise in traffic engineering software, and a proven ability to manage complex projects and mentor junior engineers.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the planning, design, and analysis of transportation infrastructure projects, including roads, highways, intersections, and public transit systems.
- Conduct comprehensive traffic studies, including volume counts, capacity analysis, and safety assessments.
- Develop traffic simulation models and transportation demand forecasts.
- Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and environmental impact assessments.
- Design geometric layouts for roadways and intersections in accordance with AASHTO and relevant Kenyan standards.
- Develop traffic control plans, signage plans, and signal timing plans.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable engineering codes, standards, and regulations.
- Collaborate effectively with clients, government agencies, urban planners, and other stakeholders.
- Oversee the preparation of construction documents, including plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior transportation engineers.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources for transportation engineering tasks.
- Review project designs for quality assurance and adherence to project requirements.
- Stay abreast of advancements in transportation engineering technologies and methodologies, including intelligent transportation systems (ITS).
- Contribute to business development efforts, including proposal writing and client presentations.
- Assess the impact of new developments on existing transportation networks.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Transportation Engineering. A Master's degree is highly desirable.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in transportation engineering and traffic analysis.
- Proven experience in managing and delivering transportation projects from conception to completion.
- Proficiency in transportation engineering software such as VISSIM, SYNCHRO, HCS, AutoCAD, and Civil 3D.
- Strong understanding of traffic engineering principles, highway design standards, and urban planning concepts.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a remote setting.
- Experience with traffic impact studies and roadway geometric design is essential.
- Knowledge of public transit planning and multimodal transportation is a plus.
