Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, development, and implementation of novel chemical processes and optimize existing ones for safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
- Conduct rigorous process simulations, scale-up studies, and pilot plant trials to validate process designs before full-scale implementation.
- Develop detailed process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), mass and energy balances, and equipment specifications.
- Provide expert technical guidance on chemical engineering principles, reaction kinetics, thermodynamics, separation processes, and material science.
- Oversee hazard and operability (HAZOP) studies and other risk assessments to ensure process safety compliance.
- Troubleshoot complex process issues, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective actions.
- Collaborate closely with R&D, production, maintenance, and EHS teams to ensure seamless integration of new processes and continuous improvement of existing ones.
- Manage external engineering resources and vendors as required for specific projects.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in chemical engineering technologies, catalysts, and process control systems.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the technical growth of the engineering department.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental, health, and safety (EHS) regulations.
Qualifications:
- Master's or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- A minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in chemical process design, development, and scale-up, with a strong focus on specialty chemicals.
- Proven track record of successfully designing and implementing complex chemical manufacturing processes.
- Expertise in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS) and process control systems.
- Deep understanding of chemical reaction engineering, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and mass transfer.
- Strong knowledge of safety protocols, HAZOP analysis, and risk management in chemical operations.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly.
