SunCulture does this by developing and commercializing life changing technology that solves the biggest daily challenges for the world's 570 million smallholder farming households. We are the largest distributor of solar water pumps / solar irrigation for smallholder farmers in Africa and were selected by Fast Company as one of the World's Most Innovative Companies in 2021. Here is a good explainer video recently made by CNBC. Over the last 5 years the company has grown significantly and now employs 400+ people around the world.

About The Role
A BI Analyst serves as the central point of expertise for business intelligence within our organization, acting as the go-to resource for PowerBI-driven reporting and analytics. This role leverages deep PowerBI proficiency to accelerate dashboard development, ensure data integrity, and drive actionable insights with a mastery of PowerBI, ready to deliver immediate value through expert-level dashboard development and analytics. Fueled by curiosity, innovation, and a strong sense of ownership, the BI Analyst proactively seeks opportunities to simplify processes, uncover insights through self-discovery, and take full responsibility for delivering high-impact solutions that exceed expectations. The BI Analyst collaborates across teams to align data visualizations with business needs, optimizes existing dashboards, performs root cause analyses, and maintains a trusted, efficient reporting ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • Business Collaboration and Requirements Gathering: Partner with department heads, business users, and other teams to identify reporting needs, challenges, and opportunities. Translate stakeholder requirements into impactful PowerBI dashboards or enhancements that track key metrics and KPIs, ensuring alignment with business goals. Provide clear timelines, prioritize deliverables, and foster trust through effective communication and polished solutions that enable real-time, data-driven decisions.
  • Data Visualization and Reporting: Design and develop intuitive, high-impact visualizations and reports using PowerBI, ensuring they communicate insights clearly and support strategic initiatives.
  • Data Engineering Collaboration: Coordinate with data engineers to specify required data points, formats, and structures for the data warehouse, ensuring 99.99% accuracy and availability for dashboard consumption.
  • Dashboard Optimization and Maintenance: Analyze usage patterns of existing dashboards to identify underutilized ones for retirement, maintaining an optimal portfolio (not too many, not too few). Simplify layouts, optimize backend DAX queries to reduce latency, and proactively enhance dashboards to anticipate future business needs and improve efficiency.
  • Dashboard Access Management: Implement and manage role-based access control (RBAC) for dashboards, ensuring appropriate permissions for relevant stakeholders without over-provisioning. Monitor usage patterns and streamline access as needed to maintain security, compliance, and operational efficiency.
  • Ad Hoc Analytics and Root Cause Analysis: Address one-off requests beyond standard dashboards, including deep dives into data trends, hypothesis testing, anomaly investigations, or explaining underlying factors behind descriptive metrics. Support quick analyses, minor dashboard tweaks, lightweight reports for MVPs/projects, and raw data extractions (e.g., CSV/Excel) or historical backfills from available source systems, ensuring the highest standards of data accuracy.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay abreast of emerging trends, tools, and best practices in business intelligence. Driven by curiosity and innovation, proactively identify and implement process enhancements—such as streamlined data extraction or optimized analytics workflows—to reduce manual efforts and enhance efficiency. Take ownership of initiatives, ensuring follow-through to completion and delivering solutions that foster a culture of data trust.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a BI Analyst, BI Developer, or Data Analyst, with a proven track record in dashboard development and analytics.

Preferred Skills

About BasiGo
BasiGo is an early stage e-mobility start-up looking to create the future of clean, electric public transportation in Africa. Through our products, technology, and service model, BasiGo aims to revolutionize and decarbonize public transport in sub-Saharan Africa, enabling the continent to be a global leader in affordable, modern, low-carbon public transport.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Analysis & Insights
  • Collect, clean, and analyze operational, financial, and customer data to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies.
  • Produce regular and ad-hoc reports for internal teams (operations, finance, customer experience, engineering) to support data-driven decision making.
  • Build intuitive dashboards and visualizations that track KPIs according to departments or projects.
  • Partner with business units to define metrics, validate data, and turn analysis into actionable recommendations.
  • Support Model Development & Research
  • Assist the data science team in preparing datasets for machine learning models in areas such as credit scoring, predictive maintenance, route optimization, and driver behavior scoring.
  • Document data sources, assumptions, and model inputs for transparency and reproducibility.
  • Data Infrastructure & Quality
  • Work closely with engineering to ensure data pipelines are reliable, accurate, and scalable.
  • Validate and reconcile data from multiple systems (e.g., telematics, Jani digital fare collection, billing, CRM, financial systems).
  • Establish basic data quality checks and flag anomalies proactively.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
  • Act as a bridge between technical and non-technical teams, translating data findings into clear, actionable insights.
  • Support training sessions and workshops to build data literacy across the organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
  • 2–4 years of professional experience in data analysis or business intelligence.
  • Proficiency in SQL for data extraction and transformation.
  • Strong skills in Python (Pandas, NumPy, matplotlib/Seaborn/Plotly) or R for analysis and visualization.
  • Experience with BI/dashboarding tools (e.g., AWS QuickSight, Power BI, Tableau, Looker).
  • Solid understanding of data cleaning, statistical analysis, and basic machine learning concepts.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS preferred) is an advantage.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain data insights to non-technical audiences.
  • Knowledge of the Kenyan public transport sector or fintech/mobility data is a plus.

What We Offer

  • The opportunity to work at the cutting edge of e-mobility and sustainable transport in Africa.
  • A role with real business impact, supporting data-driven decision making across the company.
  • Competitive salary and benefits.
  • Professional growth opportunities, including mentorship from senior data science leaders and exposure to advanced modeling projects
  • A collaborative, mission-driven culture where your contributions directly shape the future of clean mobility.

Attitude and Approach

  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and able to handle multiple priorities.
  • Growth mindset and eagerness to learn advanced data analysis techniques.
  • Team player who thrives in a fast-paced start-up environment.
  • Curious, analytical, and passionate about using data to solve real-world problems.
