Our client, a forward-thinking agricultural cooperative, is seeking a dedicated Senior Crop Protection Specialist to join their on-site team. This crucial role involves developing and implementing comprehensive strategies to protect crops from pests, diseases, and weeds, thereby maximizing yield and quality. You will be responsible for integrated pest management (IPM), advising farmers on the safe and effective use of crop protection products, and monitoring field conditions to preemptively address potential threats. Your expertise will be vital in ensuring the sustainable and profitable cultivation of various crops within the region.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement integrated pest management (IPM) strategies tailored to local crops and environmental conditions.
  • Conduct regular field surveys to monitor pest, disease, and weed incidence and severity.
  • Advise farmers and farm managers on the identification, diagnosis, and control of crop pests, diseases, and weeds.
  • Recommend appropriate and sustainable crop protection measures, including biological, chemical, and cultural controls.
  • Ensure the safe handling, storage, and application of pesticides, adhering to regulatory guidelines and best practices.
  • Evaluate the efficacy of different crop protection products and application methods.
  • Provide training and educational resources to farmers on crop protection techniques and risk mitigation.
  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in crop protection technology, research, and regulatory changes.
  • Maintain detailed records of pest outbreaks, control measures, and their outcomes.
  • Collaborate with agronomists, researchers, and regulatory bodies to share information and best practices.
  • Contribute to the development of company policies and procedures related to crop protection.
Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Plant Pathology, Entomology, Weed Science, Agronomy, or a related agricultural science field.
  • Minimum of 6 years of progressive experience in crop protection, pest management, or a similar role.
  • In-depth knowledge of crop physiology, pest biology, plant diseases, and weed ecology.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing IPM programs.
  • Strong understanding of pesticide regulations, safe application techniques, and environmental stewardship.
  • Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and training abilities, with the capacity to engage diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in field-based environments.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel regularly to farms within the Kisumu, Kisumu, KE region.
  • Familiarity with local agricultural practices and challenges is highly desirable.
