Our client is seeking a highly experienced and innovative Lead Mechanical Design Engineer to drive the development of advanced automotive components. This is a fully remote position, allowing you to contribute your expertise from anywhere. You will be responsible for leading the mechanical design process from concept generation through to production release, focusing on performance, reliability, and manufacturability. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in CAD software, stress analysis (FEA), materials science, and a deep understanding of automotive systems. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, software developers, and manufacturing specialists, to bring complex designs to life. Leadership experience and a proven ability to mentor junior engineers are essential. This role demands exceptional problem-solving skills, a meticulous attention to detail, and a passion for pushing the boundaries of automotive engineering.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the mechanical design and development of automotive components, ensuring they meet performance, quality, and cost targets.
  • Utilize advanced CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, AutoCAD) for 3D modeling, detailing, and creating manufacturing drawings.
  • Perform and interpret Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to validate designs for structural integrity, thermal performance, and vibration resistance.
  • Select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes for components, considering factors like strength, durability, weight, and cost.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical, software, and manufacturing engineers, throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Develop and maintain detailed design documentation, including BOMs, specifications, and test plans.
  • Conduct design reviews and provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior mechanical engineers.
  • Troubleshoot design issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in mechanical design technologies, automotive trends, and relevant industry standards.
  • Ensure designs comply with all relevant safety and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in mechanical design, with a significant focus on automotive components.
  • Expert proficiency in industry-standard CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA).
  • Strong experience with FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus) for structural and thermal analysis.
  • In-depth knowledge of material properties, manufacturing processes (e.g., injection molding, CNC machining, stamping), and GD&T.
  • Excellent understanding of automotive systems and vehicle dynamics.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, crucial for effective remote collaboration.
  • Experience with project management methodologies is a plus.
