Job Description
Tatu City is part of Rendeavour, Africa's largest urban land developer with over 30,000 acres of visionary projects in the growth trajectories of large cities in Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Rendeavour' s vision goes beyond alleviating a self-evident problem – stifling urban congestion and a dearth of quality housing and commercial property in Africa. Rather, we aim to help create the infrastructure – the living and working spaces, communities, schools and hospitals – that will help sustain and accelerate Africa's economic growth, meet the aspirations of Africa's burgeoning middle classes, and catalyse further urban development. Tatu City is a 4,500-acre, mixed-use special economic zone located approximately 25 km from the centre of Nairobi.
We are seeking a technically proficient and detail-oriented Civil/Structural BIM Engineer to join our innovative digital engineering team. This role is central to the successful delivery of our projects, focusing on the development, management, and coordination of intelligent 3D structural models. The ideal candidate will be an expert in BIM software and workflows, responsible for translating structural engineering designs into accurate and data-rich models. You will collaborate extensively with our design engineers and other disciplines to ensure a fully integrated and clash-free project model, driving efficiency and quality from design through to construction.
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY
BIM Modeling & Management:
- Develop, manage, and maintain accurate 3D BIM models for all structural components, including concrete, steel, and foundations, using software such as Revit.
- Ensure all structural models are created in compliance with project-specific BIM Execution Plans (BEP) and company-wide standards.
- Integrate structural models with architectural and MEP models, ensuring seamless coordination within a common data environment.
- Manage and update the structural BIM model throughout the project lifecycle, incorporating design changes and maintaining version control.
- Develop and manage parametric Revit families and other BIM content specific to structural project needs.
Coordination & Clash Detection:
- Lead the structural coordination process by running regular clash detection analysis between the structural model and other discipline models (e.g., architecture, MEP) using Navisworks or similar software.
- Identify, document, and collaborate with the design team to resolve all clashes and spatial conflicts related to structural elements in a timely manner.
- Chair and participate in interdisciplinary BIM coordination meetings, presenting clash reports and facilitating solutions.
- Ensure that the federated model is a single source of truth, accurately reflecting the coordinated design intent.
Documentation & Data Extraction:
- Generate high-quality construction documents directly from the BIM model, including plans, sections, details, and schedules, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
- Assist in the extraction of material quantities and other data from the BIM model to support cost estimation and procurement activities.
- Support the creation of as-built documentation by updating models to reflect on-site conditions.
- Contribute to the development of automated workflows for drawing production and data management to improve efficiency.
