Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join their innovative product development team. This is a fully remote role, offering the opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking projects from the comfort of your own workspace. You will be responsible for leading the mechanical design of complex systems and components, from conceptualization through to production. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of mechanical engineering principles, advanced CAD skills, and a proven ability to solve challenging design problems. You will work on a variety of exciting products, requiring creative solutions and meticulous attention to detail. This role demands a strong sense of ownership, excellent problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to work independently.

- Create detailed 3D CAD models and 2D drawings using industry-standard software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, Inventor).
- Perform complex engineering analysis, including Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for stress, thermal, and vibration.
- Conduct root cause analysis for design failures and implement corrective actions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, software developers, and manufacturing specialists, to ensure integrated product design.
- Define product specifications and technical requirements in collaboration with product management.
- Select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes for components and assemblies.
- Develop and execute design verification and validation plans.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance.
- Stay current with new technologies, materials, and design techniques in mechanical engineering.
- Manage project timelines and deliverables for mechanical design tasks.
- Prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Optimize designs for manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and performance.
- Support the manufacturing team during production ramp-up and troubleshoot any design-related issues.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical design engineering, with a focus on product development.
- Expert proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, Inventor) and FEA tools.
- Strong understanding of materials science, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and solid mechanics.
- Experience designing for various manufacturing processes (e.g., injection molding, CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication).
- Proven ability to lead complex design projects and mentor junior engineers.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a remote team environment.
- Experience with rapid prototyping techniques.
- Familiarity with design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) principles.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
