Responsibilities:
- Lead the mechanical design of aerospace components and systems, from initial concept through detailed design, analysis, and production release.
- Develop and implement design strategies that optimize for weight, performance, cost, and manufacturability.
- Perform complex Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to validate designs and predict performance under various operating conditions.
- Create detailed CAD models, drawings, and specifications using industry-standard software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks, NX).
- Collaborate closely with materials engineers to select appropriate materials and processes for demanding aerospace applications.
- Work with manufacturing engineers to ensure designs are producible and cost-effective.
- Oversee and perform stress analysis, thermal analysis, and vibration analysis.
- Develop and execute test plans to validate component and system performance.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers on the design team.
- Contribute to root cause analysis of design-related issues and implement corrective actions.
- Stay current with the latest advancements in mechanical design technologies, materials, and aerospace industry trends.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in mechanical design, with a significant focus on aerospace applications.
- Expertise in CAD software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks, NX) and advanced simulation tools (FEA, CFD).
- In-depth knowledge of aerospace materials, manufacturing processes, and industry standards (e.g., AMS, MIL-STD).
- Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, solid mechanics, and dynamics.
- Proven ability to lead complex design projects and mentor engineering teams.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a remote environment.
- Experience with design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA).
- Familiarity with systems engineering principles is a plus.
