Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Field Service Technician specializing in Industrial Automation to join their dynamic technical support team. This is a remote role with significant travel required to client sites. The ideal candidate will possess a strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, expertise in troubleshooting and repairing complex automation systems, and a commitment to providing exceptional on-site customer support. You will be the primary point of contact for resolving technical issues and ensuring the optimal performance of automated machinery and equipment.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert on-site technical support and troubleshooting for industrial automation systems, including PLCs, robotics, HMI, and SCADA systems.
  • Perform installation, commissioning, and maintenance of automated machinery and equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and software issues related to automation control systems.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance inspections and implement proactive measures to minimize downtime.
  • Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints to guide repair and maintenance activities.
  • Effectively manage spare parts inventory and ensure timely ordering of necessary components.
  • Provide training and technical guidance to client personnel on the operation and maintenance of equipment.
  • Document all service activities, including repairs, maintenance, and customer interactions, in detail.
  • Collaborate with engineering and sales teams to provide feedback on product performance and identify potential improvements.
  • Ensure all work is performed safely and in compliance with company and client safety regulations.
  • Respond to urgent service requests and manage time effectively to minimize customer impact.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and represent the company positively at client locations.
  • Keep abreast of the latest advancements in industrial automation technology and service techniques.
  • Contribute to the development of service manuals and troubleshooting guides.
Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree or equivalent certification in Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Automation, or a related field. A Bachelor's degree is a plus.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of hands-on experience as a field service technician in industrial automation.
  • Proven expertise in troubleshooting and repairing systems involving PLCs (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley), HMIs, VFDs, and industrial robotics.
  • Strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
  • Experience with diagnostic tools and software specific to automation systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to explain technical issues clearly.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively to client sites as required (up to 75%).
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a field-based role.
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems and industrial networking protocols is advantageous.
This role supports clients in the Mombasa, Mombasa, KE region and surrounding areas, requiring frequent travel, but the administrative base for this role is remote. Our client offers a competitive salary, travel allowances, and opportunities for career advancement.
