Job Description
As a remote-first engineer, you will focus on securing cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP), implementing security best practices, and developing automated security controls. Your responsibilities will include configuring and managing security tools such as firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDPS), security information and event management (SIEM) systems, and vulnerability scanners. You will play a key role in threat detection, incident response, and forensic analysis within the cloud environment.
This role involves conducting regular security assessments, penetration testing, and vulnerability management to identify and remediate security weaknesses. You will work closely with development and operations teams to integrate security into the CI/CD pipeline (DevSecOps), ensuring secure coding practices and secure deployment of applications. Proactive monitoring of cloud security posture and implementing measures to prevent breaches will be essential.
The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of cloud security principles, network security, identity and access management (IAM), and data protection strategies. Experience with scripting and automation for security tasks is highly desirable. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills are crucial, as is the ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with a distributed team. We are looking for a seasoned professional who can architect and implement advanced security solutions in complex cloud environments.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related field. Advanced degrees and relevant certifications (e.g., CISSP, CCSP, AWS Certified Security – Specialty, Azure Security Engineer) are highly valued.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in information security, with a strong specialization in cloud security engineering.
- Proven experience designing, implementing, and managing security controls for major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Expertise in network security, IAM, data security, and application security in cloud environments.
- Proficiency with security tools such as SIEM, firewalls, IDPS, vulnerability scanners, and endpoint detection and response (EDR) solutions.
- Experience with DevSecOps principles and practices.
- Strong scripting and automation skills (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and incident response capabilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a remote team.
- Familiarity with the security landscape relevant to the Naivasha, Nakuru, KE region or similar emerging markets is a plus.
