The Work
As a
Senior Building Automation Specialist
, you will be responsible for executing and managing Chinook's Implementation projects, ranging in size and complexity, with a focus on building automation systems and mechanical systems. In this role you will functionally report to a Program Manager or Business Team leader for project delivery functions and will assist in business development tasks such as generating fee proposals. This is a client facing role that requires significant client interaction and the coordination and management of both internal and external resources to deliver project expectations, deadlines, and financial expectations. You will direct field personnel, subcontractors, and other technical support staff as needed. Varying project functional areas of expertise may include BAS Design, Design-Build, Renovation, Retro-fit, and modification of building BAS, HVAC, SCADA, Electrical, and Energy Management Systems. Duties also include scheduling, document preparation, inspections and testing, report generation, problem resolution, quality assurance, and assisting in the development of sales opportunities.

This position is REMOTE with Local Travel in the Virginia Beach and NC Areas.
Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver quality work via Commissioning / Emulation, Testing, and Simulation, as well as direct oversight and inspection of systems design, installation, and programming.
  • Be the go-to person on-site for the operation and maintenance of the BAS system for the client.
  • Maintain and improve client relationships with all engineering disciplines and identify and develop new business opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have a High School Diploma and at least 10 years of experience with BACnet, LON, MODBUS or other related HVAC or industrial automation, programming, or installation experience may be substituted based on your skillset.
  • Requires at least 8 years of experience with field installation, maintenance or programming BAS such as Metasys, DisTech, Niagara, or similar building automation system.
  • Must have knowledge of Automation Networks such as BACnet, LON, MODBUS, and others and specifically Industrial/Automation IP networking. This role requires that you know how to get a laptop plugged into and connected to appropriate controllers.
  • Requires proficiency in configuring, maintaining and calibrating Building Automation technology components, and connectivity.

Citizenship/Clearance Requirements

Our client, a prominent manufacturing and processing firm, is seeking a Senior Industrial Automation Systems Engineer to join their fully remote, forward-thinking engineering division. This critical role involves the design, implementation, and optimization of automated systems across various industrial processes. You will be instrumental in enhancing operational efficiency, improving product quality, and ensuring the safety and reliability of manufacturing environments through advanced automation solutions.

Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and program PLC, SCADA, and HMI systems for industrial automation applications.
  • Integrate various automation components, including robotics, sensors, and vision systems, into cohesive solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues with existing automation systems, minimizing downtime.
  • Implement process improvements through automation upgrades and modifications.
  • Develop and maintain detailed documentation, including electrical schematics, control logic, and operating procedures.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, maintenance, and product development, to understand automation needs and deliver effective solutions.
  • Ensure automation systems comply with safety standards (e.g., IEC 61508) and industry best practices.
  • Evaluate new automation technologies and make recommendations for implementation.
  • Manage automation projects, including scope definition, budgeting, scheduling, and vendor management.
  • Provide technical support and training to plant personnel on automated systems.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical engineering, control systems, or a related field, with extensive hands-on experience in industrial automation. Proficiency with leading PLC brands (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell), SCADA systems, and industrial networks is essential. Experience with robotic programming and advanced manufacturing technologies is highly desirable. Excellent problem-solving skills, a meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously are required. As this is a fully remote position, outstanding communication and collaboration skills are crucial for working effectively within a distributed team.
