**JOB SUMMARY**
The primary responsibility of the Tax Accountant is the Tax function, coordinating and managing all aspects of the local tax compliance. This entails support with the key compliance activities including but not limited to meeting local requirements of submission of Indirect/Direct Tax:
+ VAT, Withholding Tax and Withholding VAT Returns
+ Catering Levy
+ PAYE
+ Affordable Housing Levy
+ National Industrial Training Authority levy
+ Social Health Insurance Fund
+ National Social Security Fund
+ Pension
**CORE WORK ACTIVITIES**
+ Preparation and review of all tax returns for the filing of tax within the stipulated timelines.
+ Monitors all taxes that apply, ensuring that taxes are current, collected and/or accrued.
+ Performing various tax reconciliations, coordinating with various teams and external stakeholders for resolving any unreconciled balances.
+ Effectively manage the relationship with finance and accounting teams, Kenya Revenue Authority and local tax advisors to ensure income tax returns are properly prepared, filed timely and appropriately documented.
+ Facilitate the collection of data required to ensure compliance with tax filing obligations including tax returns, information returns and tax payments.
+ Preparing and collating information and supporting documentation required for tax assessments.
+ Responsible for withholding tax issues and treaty clearance requirements arising from hotel operations, including verifying tax rates, set up / maintain proper withholding tax rates for application in the billing process, resolving billing disputes related to tax issues.
+ Responsible for filing all taxes including but not limited to VAT, withholding tax, withholding VAT, PAYE, AHL, NITA, NSSF, SHIF, Pension and Catering Levy.
+ Establishing effective working relationships with all team members and key stakeholders to meet compliance goals.
+ Use relevant computer programs to verify details of recorded transactions.
+ Provide regular training sessions to hotel finance teams
+ Submits reports in a timely manner, ensuring delivery deadlines.
+ Identify process improvements, especially technological enhancements
+ Perform other duties as assigned.
**CANDIDATE PROFILE**
+ Up to 3 years' experience in Tax and Financial accounting desired.
+ Understanding of broader finance and accounting concept outside of taxation.
+ Demonstrates personal integrity, self-confidence, energy and enthusiasm
+ Advanced Excel skills and the ability to work with large amounts of data.
+ Ability to collect, analyze, and evaluate data.
+ Knowledge of Peoplesoft or other Financial Accounting systems is advantageous.
+ Ability to establish and retain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
+ Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
+ An ability to manage time efficiently.
+ Knowledge of general accounting principles and accounting policies and procedures. This includes general accounting and financial reporting, tax, auditing, payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
**Education or Certification**
+ Bachelor's degree in Finance and Accounting or related major.
+ Studies in progress or completed for Accounting and/or Tax qualification (CPA Kenya, ACCA or equivalent).

Our client is looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Tax Accountant responsible for the accurate computation, timely filing, and payment of taxes for the company. The role involves ensuring compliance with relevant tax laws while mitigating tax risks and exposures. The ideal candidate will manage tax-related processes efficiently and provide valuable insights into tax planning and strategy to support the company’s financial health.
Key Responsibilities:
Compute corporate and deferred taxes quarterly and annually, providing advice on tax expense, effective tax rate, and analysis for the Company’s financial statements.
Prepare and submit monthly VAT returns in accordance with statutory deadlines.
Compile and submit monthly Withholding Taxes and VAT payments, ensuring compliance with the Income Tax Act.
Prepare monthly tax account reconciliations within set deadlines, ensuring timely resolution of reconciling items.
Monitor tax exposure through regular compliance checks and obtain a Tax Compliance Certificate for the Company.
Provide tax planning advice to minimize tax costs and identify/mitigate emerging tax risks.
Maintain tax records, including master files of computations and correspondence with the Revenue Authority and other stakeholders.
Cultivate strong relationships with the Kenya Revenue Authority and other external stakeholders.
Ensure the smooth conduct of tax audits by the Kenya Revenue Authority and external auditors/consultants.
Ensure proper month-end tax procedures, including oracle tax payments and journals within set deadlines.
Ensure timely cancellation of bonds.
RequirementsKey qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in finance/accounting/ economics and or related fields.
Qualified as CPA(K), ACCA or Equivalent
3 to 5 years’ experience in accounting.
Knowledge of tax laws and regulations.
Advanced computer skills in Ms. Office, accounting software and databases.

· Lead the preparation, review, and filing of all statutory tax returns including VAT, WHT, PAYE, AHL, SHIF, NSSF, NITA, and Excise Duty.
· Ensure all filings are accurate, complete, and submitted within required timelines in compliance with KRA regulations.
· Oversee tax accounting entries in the ERP and ensure GL accuracy for all tax-related accounts.
Strategic Tax Planning & Risk Management· Advise the business on tax-efficient structuring of commercial transactions, supply chain, and new product launches.
· Monitor changes in tax laws and assess their business impact; ensure timely implementation of necessary changes.
· Identify and implement legal tax-saving opportunities including deductions, incentives, and exemptions.
Audit & Relationship Management· Act as the primary liaison with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), handling audits, queries, and tax disputes.
· Prepare all required documentation and lead responses during tax audits or investigations.
· Build strong relationships with local tax consultants, external auditors, and regulatory authorities.
Leadership & Collaboration· Supervise and mentor junior tax/accounting staff on best practices and compliance standards.
· Conduct tax training and awareness sessions for internal stakeholders including sales, procurement, and logistics.
· Collaborate with finance, legal, procurement, and commercial teams to ensure tax is integrated into business processes.
Process & Technology· Lead tax automation and digitalization efforts in collaboration with IT and finance systems teams.

· Maintain robust documentation and processes to support future audits and tax planning.

RequirementsQualifications· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or related field.
· CPA-K, ACCA or equivalent full qualification.
· Minimum 5 years of experience in tax, with at least 3 years in a senior or supervisory role .
· Experience working in FMCG, manufacturing, or similar high-compliance sectors is a strong advantage.
· In-depth knowledge of Kenyan tax laws (Income Tax, VAT Act, Excise Duty, PAYE, Customs).
· Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle, Sage).
· Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
· Strong leadership and ability to influence across departments.
· Up-to-date knowledge of KRA systems (iTax, Simba) and electronic invoicing requirements.
