Key roles and responsibilities
Manage Engagements.
- Supporting with the organization and execution of multiple financial risk management engagements (including projects relating to regulatory, credit risk management / modelling, market risk / valuations, etc.).
- Supporting with other strategic engagements to assist clients with enhancing their financial risk management capabilities.
- Developing a client account plan and engaging with a vast client-base within the financial services industry, including banks, development finance institutions, micro-lenders and retailers.
Business Development.
- Develop and maintain relationships with decision makers at key clients
- Contribute to proposal development efforts
- Manage engagement risk and project budget
- Report to Africa USAID account lead partner on key performance metrics – Pipeline & assignments
Team Development.
- Support the development of strong delivery teams, from recruitment, mentoring, on the job development and retention
- Day-to-day management of staff to deliver on assignments and project, as well as perform administrate task over the team management (such as planning, operational matters and budgeting)
- Mentor /coach senior staff with career growth.
Personal Development.
- Involvement in community and office initiatives
- Contribute to thought leadership via at least three activities e.g. articles and speaking at events
- National / local training instructor
- Ensure continuous learning through compliance to 40 Continuous Professional Development (CPA) hours
Risk Management
Ensure 100% compliance to Quality and Risk Management Policies, Standards and Procedures.

Lead- Financial Risk Management
Academic/Professional qualifications and Experience:
- Must have a Master's degree in accounting, business, actuarial science, or related relevant degree course
- Must have a minimum 10 years of experience in a quantitative credit risk-based role.
- FRM (GARP) is an added advantage
- Coding experience is an added advantage.
Technical competencies & Personal attributes:
- Relevant experience within a quantitative credit risk-based role would be desired.
- Well versed in contemporary mathematical / statistical techniques and practices in financial risk management areas (e.g. credit risk modelling, etc.).
- Strong analytical & problem-solving skills, with the ability to proactively engage and consult with others across all levels.
- Must demonstrate strategic insights on client management and engagements.
- Experience of leading teams, coaching and mentoring staff.

You will be required to make sense of complex information under tight deadlines, and have a clear and concise writing style. Experience in due diligence investigations and political risk is a plus.
Role Tasks And Responsibilities
Investigative case management
- Under the direction of senior team members, manage and execute a range of business intelligence and compliance projects including due diligence, background checks, market entry studies, asset identification, litigation support, problem solving and power mapping
- Liaise with clients to understand their requirements and ensure that our proposals deliver solutions tailored to those needs
- Manage the entire project cycle, from initial client request to proposal drafting, acceptance, delivery and invoicing
- Liaise with our human source network and expand it by cultivating contacts in the team's countries of operation, particularly in Anglophone West Africa Business and practice development

We are seeking to engage an experienced analyst to cover East and Southern Africa for a range of subscription products and bespoke consulting tasks. The successful candidate will support our analytical coverage of political, security and business-relevant issues in for our country risk monitoring platform, Seerist, respond to queries from clients and deliver bespoke consulting engagements.
The position will be based in our Nairobi office and will also involve close collaboration with other Nairobi-based colleagues to support Control Risks' business development in the region.
Our analysts are country specialists with backgrounds in the political risk industry, business, academia, journalism, government and/or international organisations. Our analysis is delivered to clients through subscription products and in bespoke consulting engagements. We commonly advise clients on topics such as threats to stability, election outcomes, levels of corruption, sustainability and humanitarian issues, policymaking and regulatory dynamics in certain sectors.
The successful candidate will have a strong interest in and deep understanding of political dynamics in East and Southern Africa region, or a sub-set of countries in the region. and a strong background in analysing political and business dynamics in the region. They will have excellent writing and presentation skills, access to well-placed sources, and preferably some experience in business development and client engagement. Willingness to travel and an ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with colleagues across departments and offices are vital.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Writing and delivering analysis
- Provide regular and high-quality coverage of relevant developments affecting the business environment in the East and Southern Africa region for clients subscribing to Control Risks' online subscription or retainer services. This will include writing succinct updates on trends and developments across the region in domestic politics, government policy, regulation, humanitarian, operational and security issues.
- Provide verbal briefings on political, regulatory and security developments in the region to clients across sectors, including but not limited to, mining, oil and gas, financial services, power and infrastructure and telecommunications.
- Collaborate with colleagues in other geographical regions on analysis of crosscutting global issues and trends where required (geopolitical trends, Islamist militancy, energy transition, social media and technology, etc).
Consulting and client engagement:
- Deliver political risk advisory work on East and Southern African countries. Lead conversations with clients on their requirements for analysis of political, regulatory and operational risks in the region. Scope and write proposals for bespoke consulting engagements on the region.
- Contribute to the development of compelling client deliverables and propose innovative ways to present facts and analysis to clients.
- Support and contribute to the delivery of consulting engagements for the wider Africa region as required.
Demonstrating expertise
- Maintain a high level of regional and country expertise on the East and Southern Africa region through research, attendance at relevant seminars and research trips.
- Contribute to team discussions about political and business risk issues in East and Southern Africa and topical developments on the continent, ensuring coherence with other analysts.
- Develop and effectively manage relationships with government, academic, journalistic and business contacts in the region and share knowledge about sources with other members of the desk.
