Role Summary
An exciting opportunity for an experienced technical professional to lead the design, delivery, and performance of solar PV and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects across Africa. The role involves managing technical aspects from pre-construction through commissioning and post-commissioning phases, ensuring high standards of engineering, compliance, and performance across diverse markets.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-Construction
- Collaborate with Business Development teams to design innovative solutions for client decarbonisation needs.
- Lead and manage the PV BESS Technical Sales Engineering team.
- Provide expert input on control systems and other high-tech components.
- Develop design concepts and preliminary cost estimates.
- Review tender proposals and technical specifications.
- Identify and engage key vendors across different countries.
- Prepare scopes of work and manage third-party consultants (e.g., Owner's Engineers).
- Conduct site visits to assess technical risks.
- Train internal engineering teams as needed.
- Review engineering drawings and documentation from vendors to ensure compliance with project and client requirements.
- Visit manufacturing facilities to verify standards, specifications, and factory acceptance tests.
- Continuously update standard technical contract documentation based on lessons learned.
Construction & Commissioning
- Co-manage technical delivery with Project Managers, including vendor and contractor designs.
- Oversee technical interfaces and ensure alignment across all teams.

- Conduct regular site visits to monitor technical execution.

Post-Commissioning
- Support operations team with:

- Overseeing O&M technical responsibilities of partners and contractors.
- Provide feedback and lessons learned to the technical team via formal debriefs.
Reporting
- Meet internal reporting requirements using designated systems.

Key Skills & Experience
- In-depth knowledge of the PV BESS industry in Africa.
- Strong technical expertise in PV BESS systems and markets.
- Proven experience in designing and delivering PV BESS projects (minimum capacity: 1MW).
- Minimum 7 years' experience as a design engineer in PV BESS projects.
- Proficiency in MS Office and relevant design software.
- Excellent written English (additional African languages are a plus).
- Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative, results-driven mindset.
