POSITION: Policy and Advocacy Manager REPORTS TO : Executive Director About the role Our client is seeking a dynamic and strategic Policy and Advocacy Manager to lead their efforts in translating research and innovation insights into high-impact advocacy materials. This role will ensure that our work challenges conventional thinking, crosses disciplinary and geographic boundaries, and positions our organization as a thought leader in the humanitarian sector.SCOPE OF THE ROLE: • The ideal candidate will be an experienced policy and advocacy professional with strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of humanitarian issues, and the ability to develop compelling narratives that influence policy and practice. They will manage a team that collaborates closely with the research and innovation units to generate advocacy products that shape discourse and drive change.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Strategic Leadership & Advocacy • Develop and implement an advocacy strategy that amplifies the impact of our research and innovation.• Lead the creation of thought leadership materials that challenge norms and influence humanitarian policy and practice.• Position the think tank as a leading voice in key policy discussions at national, regional, and global levels.Content Development & Knowledge Translation • Work with research and innovation teams to synthesize insights into policy briefs, reports, opinion pieces, and multimedia advocacy materials.• Ensure advocacy outputs are accessible, engaging, and targeted to key stakeholders, including policymakers, donors, and humanitarian agencies.• Experiment with creative approaches to policy messaging, including storytelling, visual advocacy, and digital campaigns.Stakeholder Engagement & Representation • Cultivate relationships with key humanitarian actors, policymakers, and advocacy networks to advance our policy agenda.• Represent the think tank in high-level forums, conferences, and roundtables to drive policy conversations.• Act as a bridge between researchers, innovators, and external stakeholders to ensure policy relevance.Team & Project Management • Lead and mentor a team of advocacy and communications specialists.• Oversee the design and execution of advocacy campaigns, ensuring they align with organizational priorities.• Identify funding opportunities and lead and/or contribute to the development of grant proposals to sustain the department and its initiatives• Manage project timelines, budgets, and deliverables effectively.Risk Management and Compliance Supports the HoD/Head of Programs in managing threats and opportunities that may affect their programs/departmental objectives.RequirementsEDUCATION BACKGROUND • Master’s degree in Public Policy, International Relations, Social Sciences, or a related field.• Minimum of 5 years of experience in policy, advocacy, or communications within the humanitarian or development sectors.Desired Skills and Competencies • Strong understanding of humanitarian policy frameworks, decision-making processes, and advocacy mechanisms.• Excellent writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives that influence policy.• Experience developing advocacy materials, including reports, briefs, digital content, and multimedia products.• Proven track record of engaging policymakers, donors, and humanitarian actors.• Strong leadership skills, with experience managing teams and cross-functional collaborations.Why Join Our Client? • Shape the humanitarian sector by driving high-impact advocacy and thought leadership.• Work in a dynamic and mission-driven environment with a passionate team• Engage in high-level policy discussions and networks.

This role is based in Nairobi, Kenya. This role is open to the nationals of the country where the role is based.
You will be required to attend the office for a minimum of 2 days per week with the option to work remotely for the remaining 3 days.

Reporting in to the Global Influencing Lead, the Pan Africa Advocacy and Policy Lead is a key member of the Policy and Influencing division who will oversee the Pan Africa advocacy strategy and coordinate with other Advocacy colleagues to co-design thematic global advocacy strategies, responding to partner voices and priorities and local contexts, aligning with organisational values and goals.
The post-holder will horizon scan the agendas of African institutions to advise and provide policy and advocacy insight to Global Influencing Lead, African MCCs and partners, fostering a team mindset and support a culture of knowledge sharing of ideas and insights at a continental level.
Collaborating with the MCC Policy and Advocacy Leads, and Programme Portfolio Lead, you will build a cohort of national and regional partnerships, including faith partnerships, to ensure that there is an appropriate balance of partners working on short- and medium-term outcomes and systemic change to align with organisational values and goals.
The post-holder will act as a convenor of policy and advocacy spaces by supporting and accompanying national and regional partners to engage in regional and global coalitions and networks enabling collaboration on shared priorities, fostering a mindset of connection.
You will act as an ambassador by representing Christian Aid and engage in regional and global spaces jointly with partners, collaborating with the MCC Advocacy and Policy Leads, ensuring alignment with organisational values and goals.
About you
Essential:
Degree level qualification in a relevant field (International development, economics or comparable field).
ubstantial experience in supporting national and regional organisations to develop an advocacy strategy, including integrating
advocacy into programme work.
Substantial experience of supporting and accompanying partners to navigate and influence on a global scale.
Substantial experience of devising, leading and implementing advocacy strategies, preferably in another NGO or faith group.
Substantial experience of networking, building alliances and coordinating initiatives in networks and faith groups.
Substantial experience of peer-to-peer learning.
Substantial experience of policy research and managing research projects.
Substantial experience of public speaking to a variety of audiences, including the media.
Substantial experience of budget management.
Detailed understanding of the current policy debates, trends and analytical frameworks around key development issues.
Detailed understanding of power and political analysis, and rights based approaches.
Detailed understanding of national and regional Civil Society and faith networks - their policy positions and dynamics.
Understanding of how theology influences policy.
