This role involves providing paralegal, compliance, and general corporate support to commercial lawyers and business teams for the NBA's and its affiliate leagues' business operations in Africa and the BAL's business globally.
This includes fan engagement, grassroots programs, basketball operations, services provider agreements, media deals, sponsorships, and merchandising. Work will include drafting, assisting in due diligence processes, research, and other projects, as needed and at the direction of commercial lawyers.
The position will be based in Nairobi, Kenya and will work together with NBA and BAL legal staff across various African offices.
Major Responsibilities
- Provide timely and actionable paralegal and business affairs support for regional lawyers and business teams.
- Draft and review contracts for the NBA and BAL's businesses, in particular for fan events, grassroots programs, basketball operations, service providers, and certain revenue deals.
- Coordinate and implement due diligence process for prospective business partners and service providers.
- Attend to general corporate and administrative legal matters.
Required Skills/Knowledge
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Copilot, document management software, and other software programs.
- Strong analytical, writing, communication, and organizational skills, as well as strong problem solving and collaborative skills.
- Ability to perform independent project-based work, make independent decisions, and work with minimal supervision.
- Experience with contract drafting, with an exceptional level of attention to detail.
- Experience with Compliance/due diligence and/or contract management processes.
- Ability to work well under pressure, handle multiple tasks, and complete tasks in a deadline-oriented environment.
Experience Needed
- Minimum 1-2 years' experience as a professional paralegal at a top-tier multinational law firm, multi-national company, or similar office.
