Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct soil and water analysis to determine optimal nutrient and irrigation strategies.
- Develop and implement comprehensive crop management plans tailored to specific crop types and local conditions.
- Provide technical guidance and training to farmers on best agricultural practices.
- Monitor crop growth and health, identifying diseases, pests, and nutrient deficiencies, and recommend appropriate interventions.
- Research and evaluate new crop varieties, farming technologies, and sustainable agricultural methods.
- Manage fertilizer and pesticide application programs to maximize efficiency and minimize environmental impact.
- Collect and analyze data on crop yields, resource utilization, and economic performance.
- Prepare technical reports, field recommendations, and presentations for management and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with research institutions and agricultural extension services to stay updated on the latest developments.
- Promote integrated pest management (IPM) and other sustainable farming techniques.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Agriculture, or a closely related field. A Master's degree is a plus.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of practical experience in agronomy, crop management, or agricultural extension.
- Strong knowledge of soil science, plant nutrition, pest and disease management, and irrigation systems.
- Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation related to crop performance.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to engage effectively with farmers and professionals.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong organizational skills.
- Willingness to travel frequently to field sites and work in varying weather conditions.
- Familiarity with agricultural software and tools is advantageous.
- Understanding of local agricultural challenges and opportunities in Kenya.
- A valid driver's license and ability to operate field vehicles.
