Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Fiber Optic Technician to join our dynamic Service Expansion and Maintenance (SEM) team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic systems to ensure optimal network performance and reliability. This role plays a critical part in network expansion projects, preventive and corrective maintenance, and ensuring high service quality for our customers. Key Responsibilities Install, maintain, and repair fiber optic systems to ensure reliable connectivity and uptime. Perform fiber splicing and termination using core alignment fusion splicers and validate splice quality through OTDR and power meter testing. Conduct link analysis and fault location (point-of-break identification) to restore services within SLA timelines. Ensure optical power levels at all enclosures and splitters meet company standards and performance thresholds. Label, document, and update network records after installations, repairs, and network upgrades. Execute underground and aerial cabling tasks, including route surveys, duct pulling, pole climbing, and customer premises installations. Support expansion projects by participating in planning, rollout, and commissioning of new fiber routes and network nodes. Assist with LAN, SOHO network setups, and radio wireless integrations where necessary. Schedule and perform routine preventive maintenance on fiber routes, enclosures, and termination points. Adhere to strict safety standards, including working at heights, in confined spaces, and during adverse weather. Collaborate with NOC and Field Ops teams to minimize downtime and escalate complex issues when required. Provide customer-focused service, ensuring timely updates and quality resolutions. Requirements

Education

Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Electronics, Electrical, Telecommunications Engineering, or a closely related field.

Certification

Optical Fiber Technology certification (splicing, OTDR testing, and safety training preferred).

Experience

Minimum of 3 years’ hands-on experience in fiber installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Technical Skills

Proficient in the use of splicing machines, OTDRs, power meters, and fiber preparation tools.

Skilled in precise fiber splicing and core alignment techniques.

Knowledge of LAN, SOHO networks, and wireless communication systems is an added advantage.

Certified to work at heights and in confined spaces, with strong knowledge of OSHA and industry-standard safety protocols.

Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.

Other Requirements

Valid driving license (motor vehicle or motorcycle).

Strong planning, organizational, and time management skills.

Ability to work under pressure, including night shifts and in challenging field environments.

Demonstrated commitment to service quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
