• Expert proficiency in 3D steel detailing software (e.g., Tekla Structures, SDS/2, Advance Steel).
• In-depth knowledge of steel fabrication, welding, and erection practices.
• Strong understanding of structural engineering principles and building codes.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet strict deadlines in a remote environment.

• Produce accurate and detailed structural steel shop drawings, including connection details, for fabrication.
• Create clear and comprehensive erection plans for field installation.
• Generate accurate bills of materials (BOM) and cutting lists for fabrication.
• Collaborate closely with structural engineers, project managers, and fabrication shop personnel to resolve design issues and clarify details.
• Interpret architectural and structural blueprints, specifications, and other contract documents.
• Ensure all detailing complies with relevant building codes, standards (e.g., AISC), and project requirements.
• Utilize advanced 3D modeling software (e.g., Tekla Structures, SDS/2, AutoCAD) to create detailed models of steel structures.
• Review and coordinate shop drawings with design documents to identify and resolve clashes or discrepancies.
• Manage multiple detailing projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery of all required documentation.
• Maintain meticulous records of drawing revisions and project correspondence.
• Assist in the training and mentorship of junior detailers.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in detailing software and steel construction techniques.
• Communicate effectively with team members and clients in a remote setting.
• Perform quality control checks on all drawings prior to issuance.

• High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or degree in a relevant technical field is preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of proven experience as a Structural Steel Detailer.
• Proficiency in industry-leading 3D detailing software such as Tekla Structures, SDS/2, or similar.
• Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication processes and erection methods.
• Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings, specifications, and codes (e.g., AISC).
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of detailing.
• Solid understanding of structural connections and detailing practices.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, essential for remote collaboration.
• Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet project deadlines.
• Experience with clash detection and BIM coordination is a plus.
• Knowledge of different steel grades and their applications.
• Familiarity with CNC programming for steel fabrication is advantageous.

Your Role And Responsibilities
You will be part of Materials Technology & Energy Storage team at ABB Corporate Research in Västerås, Sweden. At Corporate Research we lead the innovation within ABB and our task is to ensure ABB's technology competitiveness now and in the future. We work in close collaboration with other research centers, our business areas: Motion, Process Automation, Robotics & Discrete Automation and Electrification, as well academic and industrial partners. In our creative and highly skilled team we develop, design, build and test new concepts and prototypes of physical and digital powertrains or electrical devices.

Metal additive manufacturing is increasingly being adopted by industry and parts are typically machined before assembly. In this project, we systematically test the thickness limit for printing thin walls using LW-DED technology. We use this knowledge to assess the sustainability benefits vs. traditional 3D printing + machining approach. The work includes planning of tests, material characterisation, sustainability assessment and reporting. The scope of the work will be tuned based on the technical background of the student.

Qualifications For The Role

• Technical background in solid mechanics, material science, chemistry, physics or similar
• Understanding of microstructure and geometrical concepts
• Interest in sustainability
• Coding skills are a plus but not mandatory, please comment in the cover letter
• Proficiency in spoken and written English is mandatory
• Strong team spirit and individual leadership are essential to deliver expected results on time and with high quality
