Our client, a renowned game development studio, is seeking a highly creative and technically proficient Senior Technical Artist to join their award-winning team. This fully remote position is ideal for an individual with a passion for visual fidelity and a deep understanding of game engines and art pipelines. You will play a crucial role in bridging the gap between art and programming, optimizing art assets, developing tools, and ensuring the seamless integration of visual elements into the game. Your expertise will directly influence the aesthetic quality and performance of our client's flagship titles.

Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate closely with art directors and game designers to define and implement visual targets for game assets.
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize art pipelines and workflows for 3D modeling, texturing, and animation within industry-standard game engines (e.g., Unreal Engine, Unity).
  • Create and implement complex materials, shaders, and visual effects to achieve desired artistic styles and enhance visual realism.
  • Optimize game assets for performance, ensuring efficient memory usage, draw calls, and frame rates across various platforms.
  • Develop custom tools, scripts, and plugins to improve art team efficiency and streamline asset creation processes.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to art assets, shaders, and engine integration.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior technical artists and the wider art team.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in real-time rendering technologies, game engines, and art tools.
  • Work with engineers to integrate art assets and features seamlessly into the game build.
  • Conduct technical evaluations of art content to ensure it meets quality and performance standards.
  • Document technical specifications, pipeline guidelines, and best practices for the art department.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Graphics, Game Design, Fine Arts, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • A minimum of 6 years of experience as a Technical Artist in the video game industry, with a strong portfolio showcasing relevant work.
  • Expertise in one or more major game engines such as Unreal Engine (UE4/UE5) or Unity.
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling and texturing software (e.g., Maya, Blender, 3ds Max, Substance Painter, Photoshop).
  • Strong understanding of shader development, material authoring, and rendering techniques.
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, MEL, C#) for tool development and pipeline automation.
  • Knowledge of performance optimization techniques and profiling tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical challenges.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, essential for working within a remote team environment.

This is a fully remote, contract position where you will play a crucial role in bridging the gap between artistic vision and technical implementation for our upcoming AAA titles. You will be responsible for developing and optimizing art assets, creating efficient pipelines, and ensuring the high-quality visual fidelity of our games across multiple platforms. Your expertise will be vital in developing shaders, scripting tools, and implementing cutting-edge rendering techniques within our proprietary engine (or Unreal Engine/Unity). The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of 3D art pipelines, real-time rendering, and game engine technology. Proficiency in tools such as Maya, 3ds Max, Substance Painter, and Photoshop is essential. Experience with shader programming languages (HLSL, GLSL) and scripting languages (Python, MEL) is highly desirable.
