Our client, a cutting-edge chemical research organization, is seeking a highly accomplished Senior Research Scientist specializing in Polymer Chemistry. This is a critical, fully remote position, allowing you to drive innovation and contribute to pioneering research from any location within Kenya. You will lead advanced research projects, develop novel polymeric materials, and collaborate with a global team of scientists to push the boundaries of material science.

- Lead independent research projects in polymer chemistry, focusing on synthesis, characterization, and application development.
- Design and execute experiments for the synthesis of new polymers with tailored properties (e.g., thermal, mechanical, electrical).
- Utilize advanced analytical techniques (e.g., GPC, NMR, DSC, TGA, FTIR, SEM) for polymer characterization.
- Investigate structure-property relationships and optimize polymerization processes.
- Develop and test polymeric formulations for specific applications in areas such as advanced materials, coatings, adhesives, or composites.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to explore new application areas and scale-up promising technologies.
- Write high-quality research proposals, reports, and publications for peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
- Mentor junior researchers and interns, providing technical guidance and fostering a collaborative research environment.
- Stay abreast of the latest scientific literature, trends, and emerging technologies in polymer science and related fields.
- Manage laboratory resources and ensure compliance with all safety and ethical guidelines.
- Present research findings effectively to diverse audiences, including technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Contribute to intellectual property generation through patent applications.
- Ph.D. in Polymer Chemistry, Materials Science, Organic Chemistry, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 6 years of post-doctoral or industrial research experience in polymer chemistry.
- Demonstrated expertise in polymer synthesis techniques (e.g., free radical, controlled radical, condensation, ring-opening polymerization).
- Proficiency with a wide range of polymer characterization methods.
- Strong theoretical understanding of polymer physics and physical chemistry.
- Proven track record of independent research, innovation, and publication in reputable scientific journals.
- Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex scientific concepts clearly.
- Ability to work independently and manage research projects effectively in a remote setting.
- Experience with computational modeling of polymers is a plus.
- Grant writing experience is desirable.
