Our client, a global leader in agricultural innovation, is seeking an experienced Senior Plant Breeder to join their fully remote research division. This pivotal role will focus on designing and implementing advanced breeding programs aimed at developing superior crop varieties with enhanced yield, resilience, and nutritional quality. You will leverage cutting-edge genomic tools and traditional breeding techniques to accelerate crop improvement.
Key responsibilities include leading breeding projects from inception to product release, managing germplasm resources, and defining selection criteria for desired traits such as drought tolerance, disease resistance, and improved market acceptance. You will be responsible for the design and execution of field trials, data analysis using statistical software, and interpretation of results to inform breeding decisions. This role requires close collaboration with geneticists, molecular biologists, pathologists, and agronomists within a remote team structure. You will contribute to grant writing and secure research funding, as well as manage intellectual property related to new varieties. The Senior Plant Breeder will also be involved in staying abreast of the latest advancements in plant breeding technology and implementing them into practical breeding strategies. Training and mentoring junior researchers will also be a part of the role.
The ideal candidate will possess a Ph.D. in Plant Breeding, Genetics, or a closely related field, with a minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in crop breeding programs. Demonstrated success in developing and releasing new crop varieties is essential. Proficiency in quantitative genetics, statistical analysis, and experimental design is required. Experience with molecular marker-assisted selection (MAS), genomic selection (GS), and other advanced breeding technologies is highly desirable. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong leadership capabilities, and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, remote environment are paramount. A strong publication record and a proven ability to manage complex research projects from conception to completion are expected.
