Our client is a pioneer in advanced aerospace engineering, seeking a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design and development of complex aerospace components. This is a fully remote position, enabling you to leverage your expertise on critical projects from anywhere in the world. You will be responsible for conceptualizing, designing, analyzing, and validating mechanical systems and components that meet stringent performance, reliability, and safety requirements. Your role will involve close collaboration with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, testing, and systems engineering, to bring innovative solutions from concept to production.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the mechanical design of aerospace components and systems, from initial concept through detailed design, analysis, and production release.
  • Develop and implement design strategies that optimize for weight, performance, cost, and manufacturability.
  • Perform complex Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to validate designs and predict performance under various operating conditions.
  • Create detailed CAD models, drawings, and specifications using industry-standard software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks, NX).
  • Collaborate closely with materials engineers to select appropriate materials and processes for demanding aerospace applications.
  • Work with manufacturing engineers to ensure designs are producible and cost-effective.
  • Oversee and perform stress analysis, thermal analysis, and vibration analysis.
  • Develop and execute test plans to validate component and system performance.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers on the design team.
  • Contribute to root cause analysis of design-related issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Stay current with the latest advancements in mechanical design technologies, materials, and aerospace industry trends.

Qualifications:
  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in mechanical design, with a significant focus on aerospace applications.
  • Expertise in CAD software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks, NX) and advanced simulation tools (FEA, CFD).
  • In-depth knowledge of aerospace materials, manufacturing processes, and industry standards (e.g., AMS, MIL-STD).
  • Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, solid mechanics, and dynamics.
  • Proven ability to lead complex design projects and mentor engineering teams.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a remote environment.
  • Experience with design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA).
  • Familiarity with systems engineering principles is a plus.
