Our client, a reputable international mining conglomerate with a significant presence in exploration and development, is actively seeking a highly accomplished Principal Geologist to join their operations team in Machakos, Machakos, KE . This senior role is crucial for identifying, evaluating, and defining new mineral resources, particularly focusing on base metals and precious metals. You will lead geological field programs, interpret complex geological data, and oversee resource estimation using advanced modeling techniques. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in mineral exploration, a deep understanding of geological environments, and a strong background in geostatistics. You will collaborate closely with mining engineers, geophysicists, and metallurgists to ensure the successful progression of projects from discovery to feasibility. Responsibilities include:
- Planning, executing, and managing geological exploration programs, including drilling, sampling, and geophysical surveys.
- Interpreting geological, geochemical, and geophysical data to identify and define mineral prospects.
- Developing and implementing geological models and resource estimates using industry-standard software (e.g., Leapfrog, Vulcan, Datamine).
- Conducting geological mapping, rock chip sampling, and trenching programs.
- Supervising drilling operations and core logging to ensure high-quality data acquisition.
- Collaborating with the mining engineering team to optimize mine planning and resource utilization.
- Preparing comprehensive geological reports, technical presentations, and resource statements compliant with international standards (e.g., JORC, NI 43-101).
- Mentoring junior geologists and contributing to the development of best practices in exploration geology.
- Assessing geological risks and opportunities associated with exploration and development projects.
- Maintaining strong relationships with regulatory bodies and local communities.
- MSc or PhD in Geology or a related Earth Science discipline.
- A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in mineral exploration, with a strong focus on resource estimation.
- Proven track record of successful discovery or significant resource definition.
- Expertise in geological modeling software and geostatistical analysis.
- In-depth knowledge of various mineral deposit types and geological environments.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong leadership, communication, and team collaboration abilities.

- Extensive experience in performing mineral resource and reserve estimations according to global standards.
- Strong understanding of mineral deposit types, metallogenesis, and exploration geochemistry/geophysics.
- Excellent geological field mapping and data collection skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage exploration teams and projects effectively.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting technical information to diverse audiences.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively in a remote environment.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
