Our client, a cutting-edge research and development firm specializing in advanced materials and their applications, is seeking a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer to join their innovative, fully remote team. This role is crucial for translating novel material properties into functional, high-performance mechanical systems and components. You will be responsible for the entire design lifecycle, from conceptualization and feasibility studies to detailed design, prototyping, and validation, with a strong emphasis on the unique characteristics of advanced materials.
Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate will possess a Master's or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, with a strong focus on advanced materials and their mechanical design applications. Significant experience with FEA software, CAD tools, and experimental testing is required. Excellent understanding of material science principles and manufacturing processes for advanced materials is essential. This is a fully remote role, demanding exceptional self-management, communication, and problem-solving skills. You will be contributing to projects with a strong connection to Eldoret, Uasin Gishu, KE .
Responsibilities:
- Lead the mechanical design and development of systems and components incorporating advanced materials (e.g., composites, ceramics, advanced alloys).
- Develop detailed 3D CAD models, manufacturing drawings, and specifications, considering material behavior and manufacturing constraints.
- Conduct advanced stress analysis, thermal analysis, and multi-physics simulations (FEA) to predict performance and identify design optimizations.
- Select appropriate materials, manufacturing processes, and joining techniques for components fabricated with advanced materials.
- Collaborate with materials scientists, manufacturing engineers, and product development teams to ensure successful integration and manufacturability.
- Design and oversee experimental validation and testing procedures to verify mechanical integrity and performance.
- Troubleshoot complex mechanical design challenges related to material properties and processing.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in advanced materials and their application in mechanical design.
- Mentor and guide junior mechanical engineers, fostering a collaborative remote environment.
- Manage project timelines, resources, and deliverables for mechanical design efforts.
