As the Lead Geologist, you will manage all aspects of the exploration lifecycle, from initial desktop studies and regional targeting to detailed exploration programs and resource estimation. Your role will involve integrating geophysical, geochemical, and drilling data to build robust geological models. You will collaborate closely with exploration managers, geophysicists, geochemists, and other specialists to ensure efficient and effective exploration efforts. A deep understanding of mineral systems, structural geology, and various deposit types is crucial for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement strategic exploration plans to identify and evaluate new mineral prospects.
- Conduct geological mapping, sampling, and data collection in the field (or manage remote field teams).
- Interpret geophysical and geochemical data to refine exploration targets.
- Design and manage drilling programs, including core logging, assay interpretation, and geological modeling.
- Utilize geological software (e.g., Leapfrog, ArcGIS, ioGAS) to create 3D geological models and perform resource estimation.
- Assess the geological potential and economic viability of prospective mineral deposits.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies and community representatives.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and proposals for exploration projects.
- Mentor and guide junior geologists and field technicians.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in exploration techniques and geological science.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Geology, Economic Geology, or a related Earth Science discipline.
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in mineral exploration, with a focus on geological interpretation and target generation.
- Proven track record of successful discovery or significant contribution to exploration projects.
- Extensive experience with geological modeling software and GIS platforms.
- Strong understanding of structural geology, stratigraphy, and mineral deposit genesis.
- Proficiency in interpreting geophysical and geochemical datasets.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex geological concepts clearly.
- Experience working remotely and managing distributed exploration teams is highly beneficial.
