We are seeking an
Instrumentation and Control (I&C) Engineer Intern
to join our Research and Development (R&D) team. In this role, you will contribute to the design, integration, and optimization of sensors, instrumentation, and control systems that power our DAC machines, advancing them from concept to prototype and eventually to minimum commercial product (MCP).
This internship offers a hands-on opportunity to apply and expand your technical skills while working on breakthrough climate technologies. Exceptional performance may lead to a transition into a permanent role, where you will continue to play a key part in shaping Octavia Carbon's growth and global impact in the carbon removal sector.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research, evaluate, and source sensors and instrumentation that enhance accuracy, reliability, and efficiency in DAC applications.
- Design and implement real-time data acquisition and control systems to improve process performance and responsiveness.
- Test, validate, and optimize integrated sensor and control solutions to ensure robustness and scalability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver seamless integration of instrumentation and control into core processes and systems.
- Develop clear technical documentation and provide proactive support to enable smooth operations and knowledge transfer across teams.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, or a related engineering field.
- Academic projects, internships, or personal initiatives demonstrating experience in embedded systems and control engineering.
- Strong understanding of sensor and actuator interfacing.
- Proficiency in C/C++.
- PLC programming knowledge.
- Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, solve problems creatively, and communicate effectively in team settings.
Duration & Compensation
This is a 3-month paid internship
with a monthly gross stipend of
KES 47,000
. Exceptional performance may lead to a transition into a permanent role.

Key Responsibilities.
Technical Writing (70%)
- Collaborate with the technical and commercialization team to comprehend

- Create well-structured, concise, and accurate content for due diligence documents, grant applications, accelerator applications, and other relevant materials.
- Ensure that technical information is communicated in an accessible manner to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Write compelling narratives highlighting Octavia Carbon's innovation and differentiation in the carbon removal sector.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather necessary information and insights for various writing assignments.
Commercialization Support (30%)
- Assist in identifying and evaluating commercial partnerships and funding opportunities.
- Support the preparation of investor, partner, and stakeholder decks.
- Help maintain CRM systems and business development pipelines.
- Conduct market research and competitor analysis to inform strategic decisions.
Qualifications.
- A Bachelor's degree or Diploma in a relevant field (preferred but not required).

Job Description
We are seeking a Process Design Engineer to support the design, optimization, and integration of Direct Air Capture (DAC) systems with geothermal energy. This role involves designing subsystems, validating performance, supporting commissioning, and ensuring energy-efficient, reliable operation of our plants.
Key Responsibilities.
- Process & System Design
– Develop Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and design DAC subsystems (e.g., CO₂ dehydration, purification) with focus on efficiency and reliability. - Process Simulation & Validation
– Perform simulations to validate heat and mass balances (HMB) and confirm system performance. - Control Strategies
– Work with instrumentation engineers to design process control strategies and optimize operations. - P&IDs & Documentation
– Prepare Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), control philosophies, and documentation. - Equipment Sizing & Selection
– Perform sizing, specify equipment, and coordinate with vendors to meet design requirements. - Testing & Commissioning
– Support pre-commissioning, commissioning, and develop test setups for design validation. - Technical Documentation
– Draft detailed technical reports and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). - Performance Analysis
– Analyse plant data, identify inefficiencies, and propose design improvements. - Custody Transfer Strategies
– Develop approaches for custody transfer across all project phases. - Geothermal Integration
– work with the process engineer to integration design of geothermal energy into DAC processes. - Collaboration
– Support plant operations and assist with additional design-related tasks as needed.
Required Skills & Qualifications.
- Bachelor's degree in chemical/Process Engineering.
- Strong understanding of thermodynamics, heat & mass transfer, and separation processes.
- Knowledge of equipment design, sizing, and specification.
- Familiarity with control systems and instrumentation.
- Proficiency in developing PFDs, P&IDs, and technical documentation.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Experience in commissioning and plant performance analysis is a plus.
