Title: Geologist
Schedule (FT/PT): Regular Full Time

North Wind Site Services is focused on providing engineering, program management, environmental remediation services including investigation and characterization, environmental restoration, unexploded ordnance/military munitions response (MMRP), regulatory public involvement services, environmental compliance, logistics, and records and facility management.
Position Purpose
This Geologist shall provide support for our environmental investigation and remediation projects across the country. Primary responsibilities will be to support environmental projects at the DOE facilities across the country (I.E. Savannah River Site – SC, Los Alamos – NM), DOD customers, USACE customers, and private sector customers. Must have experience with a variety soil/groundwater sampling techniques, drilling oversight including lithologic logging, and CERCLA and RCRA remedial investigations/remedial actions. Candidate must be able to work independently as the lead geologist in the field at the project site. Candidate must have strong verbal skill to communicate with client and project stakeholders. Travel required 50-80%.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Field duties will include DPT and rotosonic drilling oversight of investigative and remedial projects.
- Office duties will include data analysis and field summary report writing.
- Extended overnight travel and the ability to obtain a federal site badge are required.
- Manage all field geological aspects of environmental projects for federal and state government, and commercial clients.
- Responsible for management of project documents.
- Organize and lead project teams in the successful completion of project tasks.
- Participate in field efforts as needed to support the successful execution of projects.
- Analyzing project needs and establishing appropriate project priorities.
- Analyzing and evaluating technical environmental data to ensure completeness and accuracy.
- Assisting in developing more junior staff in technical and consulting excellence.
Additional Duties And Responsibilities
- Collect data and samples in accordance with approved procedures.
- Collects and documents soil, air, and/or water samples to determine presence and quantity of contaminates.
- Prepares sample for testing, records in situ data, and logs daily activities.
- Field duties will include Direct Push Technology, Hollow Stem Auger, and Roto-Sonic drilling rig oversight.
- Office duties include data management and documentation organization.
- Participate in field efforts as needed to support the successful execution of projects.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in a geology, environmental science or a geological related field
- Must have a minimum of 5 years of related geology experience in the environmental field.
- Experience with soil/groundwater sampling, drilling oversight including lithologic logging, and CERCLA and RCRA remedial investigations/remedial actions.
- Knowledge and experience with drilling oversight including soil borings, monitoring well installations, and monitoring well abandonments.
- Knowledge and experience with various media (e.g., soil, soil vapor, groundwater), contaminant types, and standard operating procedures for investigation and corrective action.
- Demonstrated, substantial experience writing technical plans and reports for regulatory review.

- Ability to manage field projects with extensive customer contact.
- Able to manage field subcontractors.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management, staff, and clients, as well as outside business associates.
- Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to effectively present information and respond effectively and sensitively to questions from clients, managers, staff and the general public.
- Ability to utilize multiple word-processing and database applications including MS Office applications Word, Excel, and Access.
- Demonstrated ability to work accurately, follow procedures and schedules, and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Excellent proof-reading and writing skills.
- High degree of sensitivity regarding confidential client and employee information.
- Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, and make decisions, solve problems, exercise good judgment, work under pressure, and capable of prioritizing workload.
Special Requirements
- Must pass pre-employment background check.
- Must pass pre-employment drug testing.
- Must have a valid driver license.
- Ability to drive a pick-up truck and/or transit van.
- 40 Hour HAZWOPER with 8-hour refresher
- Ability to pass U.S. Government employment background check and acquire U.S. Government Personal Identity Verification (PIV) credential card.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working on projects for Department of Defense, Department of Energy, Environmental Protection Agency, or other federal agencies.
- Working knowledge of the CERCLA and/or RCRA regulatory processes for facility investigation and corrective action.
- OSHA 30 Hour
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, squat, climb and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee is often required to use hands or fingers to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms.
Working Environment
The work is conducted both indoors and outdoors. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is normally mild to moderate. The employee will be exposed to moving mechanical equipment, machinery, and vehicles. The employee must be able to stand for long periods and walk across uneven terrain.

Position Purpose
Ensure timely delivery of high-quality structural design services for internal and external clients in a multi-disciplinary architect-engineer environment with emphasis on Federal contracts. Interact effectively with all members of the project delivery team including architects, engineers, subconsultants, construction contractors, and clients.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Oversee and perform structural design for Design-Bid-Build (DBB) and Design-Build (DB) projects, and proposals in response to Request For Proposal (RFP) documents.
- Perform structural load analysis and design of steel, concrete, concrete masonry, and timber features including foundations, columns, beams, joists, walls, shear walls, decks, bracing, supports, gates, and various specialty structures.
- Prepare structural design deliverables including survey reports, planning reports, study / feasibility reports, basis of design, plans, specifications, cost estimates, schedules, and design-build RFPs.
- Sign and seal final structural design deliverables as required.
- Ensure design deliverables are developed in accordance with the contract and have been properly coordinated.
- Perform design for multiple projects simultaneously, completed on time, within budget and in accordance with contract scope.
- Perform construction phase services as required by contract including site visits, inspection reports, response to RFIs, and review of shop drawings, material submittals, and construction modification documents.

Additional Duties And Responsibilities
- Manage small projects to gain experience in project management and structural specification writing.
- Lead, mentor, check, and act as a technical resource to more junior Design Engineers.
- Assist the Project Manager with client interaction, scheduling, budgeting, and resource management.
- Cooperate with construction partners to overcome day to day challenges that arise in the field, doing so promptly and with a "can do" attitude.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil / Structural Engineering (Structural emphasis).
- Minimum of 6 years of design experience.
- Registered Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural Engineer (SE).
Skills And Abilities
- Demonstrated ability to communicate, both verbally and written, with internal design team members and external stakeholders.
- Thorough understanding of project delivery processes and structural engineering design
- Proficiency with structural design software, including Ram Structural System, STAAD, Enercalc, and Tekla.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Federal Design Criteria (e.g., Unified Facilities Criteria).
- Demonstrated knowledge of UFGS (e.g., Unified Facilities Guide Specifications) and SpecsIntact specifications.
- Demonstrated experience in compiling and responding to Federal solicitations.
- Working knowledge of Revit BIM modeling is a plus.
- Ability to perform protective design for anti-terrorism / force protection, including progressive collapse design, is a plus.
- Ability to perform seismic analysis and design is a plus.
Special Requirements
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret or Higher U.S. Government Clearance.
- Must be willing and able to travel to job sites, occasionally requiring multiple days on site. Estimated travel is up to 20%.
Physical Demands
Exert up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally. Required sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
Working Environment
Up to 80% of time in an office environment with up to 20% of time spent on travel to client sites. Office locations for this requirement are in Birmingham, AL; Huntsville, AL; Nashville, TN; Idaho Falls, ID; or Salt Lake City, UT.
