Purpose of Job

The Analyst contributes to all phases of the project cycle, including project origination, structuring, execution, implementation and monitoring.

The Analyst will take responsibility for the tasks assigned to them by the operation leader or more senior members of the project team, or more senior bankers, which may include undertaking comprehensive due diligence, including financial, market, integrity and EBRD policy compliance, as well as effective post-signing implementation and monitoring.

The Analyst carries out these tasks as part of a project team under the guidance of the operation leader or under the supervision/guidance of more senior bankers.

Background

The Food and Agribusiness Team aims to maximise the transition impact potential of companies in the food and agribusiness sector (covering the entire value chain including primary agriculture, processing, food and beverage production, packaging, logistics and food retail) in all countries of operations by addressing their specific needs through tailored financing solutions. Cumulative investments in agribusiness accounted for EUR 16 billion in over 940 projects since 1991, making the EBRD the single biggest investor in the food and agribusiness sector in the Bank's region. Food and Agribusiness has an annual investment flow of approximately EUR 1 billion in about 60 projects (100% are usually private).

The Project life cycle involves several stages from origination to signing, followed by implementation and monitoring until full completion and repayment or exit. All the stages involve different tasks such as business marketing, project due diligence analysis, structuring and approval, negotiation and signing of project agreements, disbursement and monitoring.

The role of the Analyst is to contribute, as a project team member, to the structuring, implementation and monitoring of debt and equity transactions, and their effective implementation and monitoring in line with the Bank's operational objectives. Under the guidance of the operation leader and/or more senior bankers, the Analyst performs those tasks assigned to them and provides support to the operation leader and the project team throughout the project cycle, with a particular emphasis on research, data gathering, credit analysis and financial modelling.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the operation leader or a more senior banker:

Structuring and Execution

  • Work as a project team member on transactions, contributing to all aspects of project structuring and execution, including comprehensive research and analysis of background materials, market information and financial performance data; analyse and evaluate potential risks related to the proposed project, including analysis of financial statements, preparing and updating financial models and financial projections.
  • Assist with the designing and processing of technical co-operation assistance, including preparation of terms of reference and internal approval documentation, to support the related investment projects.
  • As may be requested, assist with communication with other internal units of the Bank, clients and other stakeholders, at the operational level, such as preparing draft correspondence, presentations, and following up on internal emails.
  • Ensure that all tasks assigned to the Analyst are completed within the specified time frames to a high quality and in line with the policies, procedures and objectives of the Bank.

Portfolio Monitoring, Value Creation and Reporting

  • As requested by the operation leader, undertake assigned tasks relating to the implementation and monitoring of projects to which the Analyst is assigned as part of the project team, including compliance with project agreements and Bank procedures related to disbursement, monitoring of progress of the project and financial performance of the client, assessing evolving risk factors and monitoring and assessing covenant compliance.
  • As requested by the operation leader or more senior member of the project team, prepare timely and comprehensive draft monitoring reports and include recommendations for corrective actions where required and ensure these corrective actions and recommendations are brought to the attention of more senior team members.

The responsibilities of the Analyst are designed to allow the Analyst to progressively undertake more complex tasks and build the scope of responsibilities based on acquired experience and expertise.

Qualifications & Skills / Experience & Knowledge

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree. Master's degree preferred or equivalent experience in the areas of expertise.
  • Professional qualification such as ACA, CFA, ACCA, or CIMA desirable.
  • Quantitative/numerical skills are critical with the ability to interpret financial information and to design and use financial models.
  • Credit analysis skills, with the ability to interpret accounts, understanding local and international accounting principles and practice of credit analysis.
  • Computer literacy, conversant with Microsoft Office and spread sheet packages including financial analysis and modelling modules.
  • Good understanding of relevant systems and processes.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member and to deadlines and under time pressure.
  • Good written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Good command over the local/country language is an advantage.

Experience & Knowledge:

  • Relevant financial industry experience from an investment or commercial bank, private equity firm, asset management firm, or auditing/financial consulting firm operating to international standards.
  • Exposure to industry/country experience.

Background

The Communications Department drives all corporate communications, promoting the Bank's vision and protecting its reputation and brand. Associates play a key role, leading complex projects, engaging with media and stakeholders, and crafting material that showcases the EBRD's work creatively. They collaborate across teams and levels of the Bank, including senior management and the Board.

Purpose of the job

  • Oversee and coordinate communications using variety of channels including social media, the corporate website , video, audio, the news media, multimedia publications, and internal communication outlets.
  • Highlight, publicise and promote EBRD's work externally and internally.
  • Maintain effective relationships with senior stakeholders across the Bank and externally.
  • Generate compelling, articulate content across channels, which promote the Bank's activities.
  • Implement the department's strategic plan within their team/area.
  • Show creativity and initiative in dealing with complex issues and often with tight deadlines.

Detailed tasks:

  • Promoting the Bank's activities in the sub-Saharan Africa region
  • Contributing to the daily workstream and follow the strategic direction within their team or area of operation.
  • Delivering a strong stream of high-quality content illustrating the Bank's activities on multiple online platforms, and to measure its impact.
  • Negotiating budgets for individual projects, in consultation with the department's senior management
  • Developing and maintaining relationships at all levels across the EBRD, as well as with external media outlets and partners.
  • Coordinating and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including at the most senior levels.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

The Associate is expected to demonstrate initiative, manage multiple tasks and work without supervision.

The main accountabilities and responsibilities might include, but are not limited to:

  • Working with management on the visibility of the Bank's investments and activities via media interviews, compelling content for the website and social media channels.
  • Overseeing delivery of defined areas of the Communications Strategic Plan as directed.
  • Setting objectives for individual programmes of work, and ensuring effective assessment of outcomes and impact
  • Delivering accurate and creative content using a variety of channels relevant to the Bank's communications activity
  • Representing the Bank on relevant issues, internally and externally, to present a positive image and consistent voice about the Bank's activities.
  • Assisting with the preparation of communications strategies and responses to negative and inaccurate reports to safeguard the Bank's reputation.
  • Developing and maintaining a strong range of internal EBRD contacts and external contacts in the Bank's regions and other shareholder countries.
  • Guiding and advising more junior team members to ensure that material is delivered to a high standard.
  • Delivering training in specific skills areas (eg as a media specialist)

Qualifications

Experience

  • Extensive experience in relevant areas of digital communications/journalism/ media relations/internal communications/donor visibility/writing and editing/research or other communication skills.
  • Good understanding of the Bank's regions including political and socio-economic context.
  • Knowledge of digital platforms and traditional media, relevant to communications and the industry.
  • Good understanding of the relevant business sectors.

Technical skills

Purpose of Job

The Associate Director, Regional Policy Lead (AD RPL) is the key VP3 representative in Sub-Saharan Africa Region (a "region") and is responsible for the prioritisation, design and delivery of the Bank's policy agenda in that region, as well as the Bank's economic and political assessment of that region. The role is located in one of the Bank's Resident Office in Nairobi, Kenya.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

  • Orchestrate the prioritisation of policy engagements in their region, in consultation with the Head of RO, Country Management, the Director, Regional Policy and Strategy and the thematic and sectoral VP3 (PSD and CSD) and Banking teams. This includes responsibility for the preparation of policy compacts for each county of operation in their region, prepared on the basis of Country Strategies.
  • Oversee the portfolio of active policy engagements, using the tools of the policy database, briefings for senior management and the policy compacts.
  • Contribute to the preparation of the Country Strategies for each country of operation in the relevant region, taking responsibility for working with Banking country management to design an overall narrative and agenda.
  • Actively contribute to the respective regional management team through the regional management meetings and otherwise.
  • Lead the regional team of VP3 staff, assuring good utilisation of scarce resources, in collaboration with policy delivery teams in HQ and Country Management.
  • Manage the cooperation between the PSD and CSD specialist teams and the Regional Policy and Strategy team in the region, ensuring effective sharing of information and coordination while avoiding duplication; with cooperation based on the principles that sector expertise and responsibility for a defining a sectoral agenda lies with PSD and CSD, while prioritisation, integration of multiple policy themes and local stakeholder management is the responsibility of the AD, RPL and regional team.
  • Coordinate the preparation of updates to other Bank counterparts on economic and political developments in the relevant region, overseeing and supporting in particular the work of the political counsellor and regional economist allocated to that region, including working with the relevant political counsellor and the Deputy Director, Political Affairs, to deliver periodic Article 1 assessments for each country in the relevant region.
  • Support the career development of regional VP3 staff through coaching through personal development plans.
  • Ensure an optimal mix of policy and advisory offerings for large banking transactions, using synergies with the Bank's investments to maximise transition impact. During implementation, ensuring joined-up delivery of TCs including but not limited to OpsCom submissions for large projects, specifically in the public sector.
  • Support Country Management in their dialogue with country authorities, specifically on policy matters (Overall responsibility for dialogue with country authorities lies with Country Management).
  • Support RO and sector Banking teams in delivery of their core objectives, including the identification, origination, review, structuring and implementation of investments. In that context the Policy Lead has  a particular focus on linked policy dialogue, both upstream and transaction-specific with the goal of maximising the transition impact of the Bank's interventions.

Qualifications & Skills / Experience & Knowledge

  • Advanced degree in economics or related field from a leading university, or equivalent professional experience;
  • Strong knowledge of economic and policy issues facing transition economies and emerging markets;
  • Extensive relevant postgraduate professional experience, preferably in an international organization, government agency, think tank or other policy environment;
  • Experience with policy delivery on emerging market economies, in particular, on countries of operation of the EBRD;
  • Demonstrated capacity to deliver sectoral reforms.
  • Familiarity with emerging market investments would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge in one or more sector policy areas and project experience would be a major plus;
  • Excellent personal skills;
  • Excellent communication and writing skills;
  • Experience in team management;
  • Fluency written and spoken English. Fluency in one or more of the languages of the relevant region would be an advantage.
  • Ability to plan and organise work unsupervised;
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines;
  • Good organisational and multi-tasking skills;
  • Ability to operate in a multicultural environment and build effective working relationships with internal/external clients and colleagues.
