Airport Paving Project Manager
Independence Excavating is looking to hire an experienced and seasoned Project Manager to our company to join our Paving division. As a Project Manager, you will manage all aspects of the assigned airfield project, including budgets, schedules, submittals, RFI's, contracts, purchase orders as well as being comfortable and professional with owner interaction.

A Typical Day Looks Like
- Reading, understanding, and interpreting drawings and specifications
- Soliciting quotes from subcontractors and suppliers
- Reviewing estimated productions with Superintendents to finalize the bid
- Preparing detailed schedule and maintain (P6)
- Tracing and maintaining running totals, tonnages and payments for recycled materials on job sites
- Assembling job cost codes for projects and regularly update
- Preparing and submitting pay estimates to Owners
- Monitoring production, resource utilization and overall job cost vs. estimated cost to maintain profit margin on projects
- Monitoring and checking the progress of project close-out activities such as punch list coordination, furnishing as-built drawings, providing O & M manuals, and compiling final estimate/retainer billing
Do you have what it takes?
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Additional construction certifications or training preferred
- 5-10 years' experience as a Project Manager
- Multi-faceted in construction knowledge from earthwork, utilities, and concrete paving is preferred
- Demonstrated ability to manage people, schedules, budgets, and quality of work at multiple construction sites
- Must be competent to perform complete and accurate project take-offs and estimates
- Must possess a forward-thinking drive to continually improve and have the willingness to learn
- Have working knowledge of FAA, USACE, NAVFAC, and various state DOT specifications
- Must be able to effectively communicate verbally with employees, external vendors, owners, general contractors
- Lead and maintain a positive work environment, safety, and quality culture on the jobsite
- Must have strong organizational skills in order to handle the variety of tasks assigned

Independence Excavating is looking for a motivated and assertive Demolition Project Manager to join our growing teams on demo project across the United States. The DPM will report to the Senior Project Manager and will be responsible for managing the administrative, contractual, cost tracking, and scheduling aspects of the demolition projects. This role is very heavy administratively and requires thoroughness and follow through on all items.

A Typical Day Looks Like
- Effectively and professionally communicating verbally with employees, external vendors, owners, and general contractors
- Reading, understanding, and interpreting drawings and specifications
- Soliciting quotes from subcontractors and suppliers, writing subcontracts and PO's, schedule coordination and invoices
- Making sure that permits, if required, are obtained
- Working with Superintendent to determine equipment and crew needs
- Preparing monthly detailed pay estimates for submission to owners and price up changes/extra work for the owner
- Making constant important decisions and resolving conflicts about the job or project itself, including various costs, scheduling, and contract items
- Other duties as needed and/or assigned
Do you have what it takes?
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required and Associates or Bachelor's degree in related field is preferred
- 6-8+ years of solid working knowledge of engineering theories and practices as it relates to demolition
- Must have strong organizational skills in order to handle the varieties of tasks assigned
- Must develop positive working relationships with Owners, Assistant Project Managers, Project Engineers as well as local government offices
- MS Office and construction management software experience, preferably, HCSS, Primavera (P6), Viewpoint, MS Project, Adobe/Bluebeam
- 100% travel is required, including regular overnight travel; position is required to be onsite full time and is often out of state

A Typical Day Looks Like
- Working with the superintendent to build dry utility crews and develop a plan to perform site earthwork in unison with other crews or other contractors that may be present on site
- Implementing plan in order to meet project schedule and budget.
- Installation of dry utilities to meet project specifications
- Recording and tracking progress and compare vs estimated costs in order to meet or exceed the planned profit margin
- Working with the superintendent to schedule employees and equipment to keep utilization rates high
- Communicating with vendors and subcontractors as it relates to utilities
- Maintaining a working knowledge of related plans and specifications, contractual requirements, and schedules, and communicating progress or any issues with the superintendent and project manager
- Ensuring the safety of all employees and personnel on site, by maintaining compliance with all applicable OSHA and IX safety policies and procedures
- Other duties as assigned
Do you have what it takes?
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Five plus years previous heavy civil construction experience
- Strong verbal communication skills to communicate with employees, co-workers, and inspectors
- Strong organizational skills – responsible for timekeeping, equipment tracking, quantity tracking, and input on schedule development
- Strong interpersonal skills – ability to manage multiple personality types to lead, motivate and teach crews while maintaining a harmonious work environment.
- Ability to read and interpret grading plans, specifications, and geotechnical information
- Experience with different types of equipment spreads
- Experience with grade checking to meet project plans and specifications utilizing a variety of methods including GPS, rotating laser, stakes and cut sheets, etc.
- Fundamental knowledge of forecasting and measuring production rates for different equipment spreads
- Fundamental knowledge of GPS equipment as it applies to grading
- Fundamental knowledge of drilling and blasting as it applies to earthwork

A Typical Day Looks Like
- Producing and verifying cut sheets
- Overseeing and coordinating the initial layout at the job site and provides continuous monitoring of the same
- Providing work control lines and elevations that are required for accurate measurement and correct installation of material by crafts, i.e.,
- Providing checking of as-built conditions that require the use of surveying techniques
- Providing topographic and cross-section surveys as required for planning and payment quantities
- Supervising Surveying Technician and Surveying Trainee personnel
- Regularly making important decisions on interpreting drawings and specifications and applying them to the physical layout at the job site.
Do you have what it takes?
- Minimum HS Diploma. Additional training and/or related certificate preferred
- Minimum five years of previous related experience
- Comfort level with Trimble GPS equipment, Trimble machine control, Trimble total station setup, ect.
- Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Ability to build surfaces for GPS equipment
- Utilize and have a thorough understanding of surveying practices and equipment use
- Must have good math skills
- Must be able to verbally communicate instructions and plans well with all internal and external contacts
- Must be able to effectively communicate rationale behind decisions made
- Work must be performed carefully and with great accuracy
- Must have a valid driver's license
- This is a field and office position- willingness to work outside and in all weather conditions
- Local travel to job sites required
- Occasional overtime may be necessary during peak times

A Traveling Heavy Civil Superintendent is responsible for completion of high-profile projects throughout the country, including but not limited to:
- Run day-to-day operations on the construction site
- Needs to be multi-faceted in construction knowledge from earthwork, utilities, and paving
- Maintain a safe work site and certify that all company safety protocols are followed
- Represent the company with professionalism and lead the overall construction effort in accordance with design, quality, and schedule
- Direct and lead the onsite foreman & make onsite decisions
- Clearly communicate the plan and directive with the foreman & subcontractors
- Work under a General Superintendent to coordinate resources, project strategy, and a pathway for project success
- Develop the work schedule with the project manager & maintain and lead discussion of a two-week look ahead
- Communicate daily with the Construction Operations Manager about schedules and resources needed
- Review equipment and personnel with foreman for resources needed
Do you have what it takes?

As a
Project Manager
your responsible for all aspects of multiple construction projects for the duration of projects assigned; lead the project teams with the project executive(s) and represent Independence Construction to the client; work with IC executives on business development to secure future work.
- Develop Site Specific Safety Plans with Project Team, with assistance from company Safety personnel. Ensure safety is discussed at project morning huddles
- Work with estimating department on project bids and pre-construction phase for assigned projects. Assist in preparing Bid Packaging strategies and bidding Scopes of Work
- Prepare and review project schedules from pre-construction phase through close-out
- Working with estimating department, Initiate and award subcontracts to vendors and subcontractors during pre-construction phase; issue change orders as necessary.
- Develop and revise project budgets, as necessary
- On a monthly basis, prepare, monitor, and present Job Cost reports (i.e., budgets, GC expenditures, budget revisions, change orders and gross profit projections) for all projects assigned to Management and Company Controller
- Act as liaison with Owner/Architect for projects assigned
- Develop and Monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) utilized on projects
- Administer and monitor compliance with construction contracts with Owners, subcontractors, and vendors; provide timely written notices in accordance with project manual and contract requirements
- Construction documentation management, including but not limited to applying for building permits, surveys, testing and inspections, in conjunction with projects' superintendents
- Coordinate and expedite materials and services for the job sites, in conjunction with superintendents
- Manage labor relations and work with appropriate internal personnel to resolve labor issues
- Analyze actual costs to estimates and document variances
- Prepare and update cash flow projections and if required using a cost-loaded schedule
- Oversee, manage and/or complete change management processes
- Review and coordinate structural, architectural and MEP drawings throughout project
- Oversee the MEP Coordination process and 3D or BIM utilization to assure project coordination is accurately being implemented
- Manage the Job Close out Process including Contracts with Owner, subcontractors and vendors, and obtain all necessary warrantees and releases
- With company and project executives, perform business development functions to obtain future work
- Travel within a 2-hour radius may be required.
Do you have what it takes?
- Bachelor's degree in construction management or engineering; 10+ years' experience in progressively responsible roles in construction management or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to deal with situations involving sensitive and confidential company issues
- Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate with all levels, both internally and externally
- Knowledge of budgeting and expense control
- Well-developed analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Able to write reports, business correspondence
- Able to organize work, engage in a variety of tasks simultaneously and consistently meet deadlines
- Knowledge of all different construction delivery systems
