Your contribution will directly impact the future of specialty crop production and market competitiveness. Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement plant breeding programs for specific specialty crops, focusing on desired genetic traits.
  • Conduct controlled crosses, manage breeding nurseries, and perform field evaluations of segregating populations and advanced lines.
  • Utilize molecular markers and genomic selection techniques to accelerate breeding progress and identify superior genotypes.
  • Collect, manage, and analyze phenotypic and genotypic data using specialized breeding software and statistical tools.
  • Evaluate germplasm for adaptability, disease resistance, stress tolerance, yield potential, and quality attributes.
  • Collaborate with post-doctoral researchers, technicians, and other breeders to achieve project objectives.
  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in plant genetics, breeding technologies, and specialty crop markets.
  • Communicate research findings through internal reports, presentations, and potentially scientific publications.
  • Contribute to the development of intellectual property through patent applications and protection of new varieties.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in Plant Breeding, Genetics, Horticulture, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in applied plant breeding, preferably with specialty crops.
  • Strong understanding of quantitative genetics, molecular breeding techniques (e.g., marker-assisted selection, genomic selection), and experimental design.
  • Proficiency in using breeding management software (e.g., GenStat, R) and statistical analysis packages.
  • Experience in evaluating and characterizing crop germplasm and phenotyping.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with a meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively in a remote setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and releasing new crop varieties is a significant plus.
