System Administrator

Primary Purpose

A highly organized, results driven candidate with a key focus on successfully delivering various business projects within the Information Technology sector of the business. The role of the System Administrator will be to maintain, upgrade and manage our software, hardware and networks.

The System Administrator will be responsible to organize, install and support the organization's computer systems. These include local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN) and other data communication systems such as intranets or internet cafes within their company.

Resourcefulness is a necessary skill in this role. As a Systems Administrator, you should be able to diagnose and resolve problems quickly. You should also have the patience to communicate with a variety of interdisciplinary teams and users.

Although this role offers a high level of cross-functional interaction and exposure to Senior Management in an IT capacity, it does not involve line management of any teams or personal.

It is a vital position in terms of liaising with the Heads of all Departments to ensure the technology solutions are in place and working resulting in faster and increased productivity from all channels within the business. Your goal will be to ensure that our technology infrastructure runs smoothly and efficiently.

This role has privileged rights to various systems and hence honesty is important. The onus is on the individual to report any suspicious behaviour to the company CEO or a representative of the holding company.

Responsibilities:

• Install and configure software and hardware
• Manage network servers and technology tools
• Set up accounts and workstations
• Monitor performance and maintain systems according to requirements
• Troubleshoot issues and outages
• Ensure security through access controls, backups and firewalls
• Upgrade systems with new releases and models
• Develop expertise to train staff on new technologies
• Build an internal IT technical documentation, manuals and IT policies
• Systems – Consolidate an overview of all IT systems used by the Reservations teams and the necessary development needed with the System.
• Being a change-leader in area of cyber security. Helping educate staff on the importance of following best practice in this regard.
• Travel into the safari camps and aviation office to provide IT support from time to time and when need arises

Requirements and Skills:

• Proven experience as a System Administrator, Network Administrator  or similar role.
• Experience with databases, networks (LAN, WAN) and patch management.
• Knowledge of system security (e.g., intrusion detection systems) and data backup/recovery.
• Ability to create scripts if and when required.
• Familiarity with various operating systems and platforms of Wilderness.
• Resourcefulness and problem-solving aptitude.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Trustworthy and Honest.
• High ethical values.
• BSc/Ba in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related discipline; or;
• Professional certification (e.g., Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA).
• Flexibility to travel into the safari camps and aviation offices when need arises.
