Overview:

ICRW is seeking an experienced researcher or librarian to conduct a scoping review literature search aimed at addressing the three different research topics listed below:

  1. What works best to ensure that social protection measures benefit poor women and underserved groups in Africa?
  2. How are childcare services in sub-Saharan Africa (and in Kenya in particular) organized and what challenges do they face?
  3. What factors shape access to and use of childcare services among poor households in Kenya?

The consultant will work with ICRW team to develop the terms required for a comprehensive search strategy and identify relevant literature. The search will focus on research published within the last 10 years.

Duration:

The assignment is expected to take a total of 6 days in November, 2023

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline with at least 5 years of relevant professional experience; or Master's degree in relevant discipline.

  • Thematic scoping reports on the research topics
  • Comprehensive PRISMA process documents outlining the steps used in identifying, excluding, and selecting research papers for each of the research questions.
  • Professionally organized electronic files of PDF copies of all studies identified in (ii) above for each of the research questions.
  • Separate excel sheets or any other friendly open-source application showing records/details of all articles (including year of publication, title, source, authors, abstract, etc.) identified through a database search for each of the three research questions.
  • All other relevant materials related to the scoping review as requested by ICRW.

  • Access to publication databases and peer-reviewed articles.
  • Ability to work effectively within tight deadlines, and to deliver time-sensitive high-quality work.
  • Experience supporting, implementing, or leading a systematic or scoping review.
  • Ability to communicate and write competently in English. The ability to communicate professionally in French will be considered an asset.
