Giryama (nyf) Language Verifier

Location: Remote

Status: Contract, project-based

Pay: Fixed fee

JOB SUMMARY 

The successful candidate will be proficient in Giryama (nyf_ke) of the North Mijikenda language group and reside in Kenya.

Language verifiers’ duties include creating language verification tests, quality control of existing language verification tests, evaluating language test submissions, and doing quality control on audio and video files. Language verifiers create language verification tests following detailed instructions that will be provided upon employment. The nature of the role is ongoing and project-based. The workload is dependent on project needs. Payment is based on work completed at the rates listed below. 

Language verification test creation - $150, one time fee  

Language verification test review - $15 per review  

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Carry out the tasks as assigned, see above
  • Timely and effective communication with project managers
  • Clear communication in English with project managers, via email (verbal communication in English is not necessary)
  • Meet assigned deadlines
  • Report progress and performance in a proactive manner to project managers
  • Follow guidelines and requirements as dictated by project management

SKILLS

  • Native-level proficiency in the specified language
  • Ability to record yourself speaking in a natural, authentic accent
  • Knowledge of grammar and writing system/s associated with the specified language
  • Knowledge of colloquialisms, grammar, and linguistic idiosyncrasies unique to the specified language 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have Native-level proficiency in the specified language
  • Must have previous professional experience working in the specified language
  • Strongly preferred, formal education a the secondary level in the specified language
  • Preferred, formal education at the post-secondary level in the specified language
  • Preferred, Masters or Ph.D. studies in Linguistics, Translation Studies, or in the specified language
