)We're on the lookout for a Director of Business Development to join our team at Acrewise Farms, an early-stage, for-profit, social impact startup agricultural company in Kenya for an equity play (plus salary soon) in the company. If you bring deep agricultural business development experience and a solid understanding of startup dynamics and investor relations, we want to hear from you Initially this role will be remote but will transition to a full-time, on-site role in Kajiado (not remote).
Role Details:
Job Title: Director of Business Development (signifying a senior-level position, more senior than a traditional Business Development Director).
This role emphasizes hands-on involvement, ideal for proactive individuals who execute tasks and take personal accountability.
Pre-funding phase requires very minimal hours, as founders have completed all administrative tasks. Compensation during this phase is equity-based for all team members.
Post Seed Series round, the role transitions to a full-time position with a competitive salary, benefits, and performance-based bonuses. Our benefits package rocks and our salary is competitive.
Collaborate closely with the CEO, COO, CFO, and management team, with involvement from the Advisory Board.
Be responsible for leading on business development in the company, in collaboration with the CEO and COO.
Manage the sales and marketing team, including the Sales and Marketing Manager.
Own responsibility for creating and implementing a comprehensive business development strategy, including needed team members, budgets, timelines, KPIs, and projections.
Qualifications:
At least 10 years of experience, 6 or more of which must have been at a Manager or higher level.
7 years in a sales and marketing or business development role. At least 4 years must have been in a business development specific role.
Must have managed at least $3mm in annual revenue, with the ability to manage much more if given the opportunity.
Must have managed a team of at least 3 direct reports.
At least 5 years of experience in agriculture.
Must have a sincere and well displayed desire to make a social impact with disenfranchised communities.
Must have a DEEP understanding of the agricultural sector including key players, buyers, export markets, logistics, etc.

Strong Excel, PowerPoint, and Word skills.
Bachelors degree required. MBA/MA/MS/PhD preferred.
